Come on, Andries, the 717 is one of the nicest planes around. 8)
And apparently it's a very quite and comfortable one too 8)

One of the biggest negative points is that its range is less than an Airbus or B737NG.

Nothing can replace the Avro if you only count looks... The Embraer and 717 don't look good in the SNBA colours, (to thin, to long). Give me the A318, it's a nice plane !
(once again, if only looks count!)

The 717 is a dead-end, no matter how nice it looks. The production line will be closed soon, the majority of operators who bought 717's were the same who operated MD80's, and they did it for commonality. Apart for that really good reason which does not apply to SNBA, I don't see them put their money in an aircraft from the past.

The choice of an airliner is very complex, unless politics come into play. We know how that usually ends.

If the A319 and A330 stay, SNBA will stick to Airbus.

just a question ?
:?:

Which aircraft is the best buy ?
If you compare the price of the aircraft, the technical maintance costs to the economical profit (total number of passangers, fuelcosts)...

- Boeing
- Embraer
- Airbus

I just wonder ?

I believe I read on A.net that the embraers were the cheapest, but boeing will give you a nice deal if you buy 30 717's... Embrear's line would be pretty full for the next years with USairways, JetBlue, Lot, Aircanada etc...

I don't think that SNBA will choose the CRJ. It's cabin is way to small. Don't forget that SNBA is amaing at business pax

Here is some more information about SN's fleet renewal. I've seen the following article in the Air International issue of April 2004: There might be some typing errors, since I typed it.
At a press conference in Brussels on February 26 on the occasion of the airline's second birthday, SN Brussels Airlines (SNBA) provided an update on its current status and future plans. Regarding fleet renewal, evaluation of all options is still ongoing and no decisions have yet been made, although CEO Peter Davies stated that the airline needs fleet changes in the 2006-2010 timeframe. Currently the airline operates a 38-strong fleet comprising six BAe 146-200s, 14 Avro RJ85s, 12 Avro RJ100s, three Airbus A319-112s and three A330-301s. Possible candidates for the fleet renewal comprise the Airbus A318/A319 and Boeing B737-600, plus the entire Bombardier and Embraer ranges. Leases on four of the Avro RJ100s expire next year, therefore a decision will have to be made fairly soon, although with the current good lease rates for the type, it may be retained in service rather than being replaced, particularly as it also has high passenger appeal. The decision is ultimately going to be based on wether the airline decides to go for higher capacity aircraft or increase its schedules using smaller capacity aircraft.
The A330s, leased from Birdy Airlines and presently operated under the latter's AOC, also come up for renewal next year, with A330-300s or Boeing B777s being considered as likely replacements, or possibly even the B767-400, although the latter is unlikely.
After reading this article we might probably exclude the B717 as a possible candidate. Further I wonder why they don't mention the B737-700. The say Airbus A318/A319 and only mention the B737-600 :?:  The B737-700 has +- the same capacity as the 319 !!

As for the 333's it would be great to see some B777's in SNBA's colours

what does this mean: "The A330s, leased from Birdy Airlines and presently operated under the latter's AOC" ? Thanks :)

Can someone draw a 777 in SNBA colors? ;)

I hope for the Airbus types, and I even think that will be most likely the replacement. Or why not the F70/100 if they come in production again? And i think that there will be a replacement of VEX'S fleet too and since they have something to do with eachother, it could be that there comes a large common order...

I prefer the 737-400, but ARJ has great rear airbreaks, only for that i would keep them 8)

If I am not wrong, than is SNBA investing in the education of maintenance personel for the A319 (also in the job adverts they ask for A319 experiance). So the choise for the A319 or the A320 family is already been made. The F70/F100 wouldn't be an option. I talked a month ago with an engineer of a Dutch aerospace company and he told that there is still no movement in the production of Foklkers. All the assambly tools are destroyed, so it would cost a lot of money for made them.

Dave

I do not fully agree with you Dave. It's not because SNBA is training some maintenance personel for the A319 and looking for people with A319 experience that they'll be choosing for Airbus. The maitenance department will perhaps be infavour of the Airbus due to your explanation, but they are not the only ones who decide. There are many other factors that will influence the decision.
I prefer the 737-400
But if SNBA WOULD go for a B737 it'll be the NG planes ;)

The 737 looks even better :P 8)
I think it should be quite normal that SN chooses for the A319, so bye bye 737NG's...
