ENGLISH ONLY in this forum

Post by Sabena_690 »

Hi all,

Due to the fact that we have to edit/delete several messages a day posted in Dutch on this website, I want to highlight once again that www.luchtzak.be is a Belgian website, BUT for practical reasons we do strongly suggest to use the English language.

We make however one exception for Dutch and French: everybody who wants to make a posting in Dutch or French can go to the forum especially made for non-English postings. That forum is called "Nederlandstalige Bezoekers - Visiteurs Francophones".

Due to the big amount of postings luchtzak.be gets on a daily base, we (the forum admins) will stop editing/translating postings in Dutch or French. All non-English posts will be immediately deleted.

I hope you all understand our stance against non-English postings, only imagine how annoying it is for our English-speaking forum members who have to browse through Dutch postings.

Thanks for your coöperation
The Luchtzak crew

I totally agree also but what about when you copy-paste an exerpt from a newspaper in its own language?
You could say that we should just put the URL link but quite often those links become obsolete after a few days.

Happy landings

In such case you should try to provide a translation or, at least, an English summary.

A short summary in English is better than no news at all. My last submission was extracted from a Spanish-language aviation newsletter. My Spanish is not very good - I oftentimes use an internet translation service (SYSTRAN) which is free.

Hi jan_olieslagers,

I understand your concerns, but luchtzak.be is an international website.

There are too many people, whose native language is not Dutch/French, browsing through the forums of this site to accept that Dutch posts are allowed.

A seperate French/Dutch forum is created to allow that those who do not speak English but only French/Dutch are able to contribute to the site too.

Just imagine that you would have to read replies in topics in a language that you don't understand... this situation is unacceptable for an international website.

A poor English is better, internationally, than no English at all. Everybody can understand what is written, and by a regular use of English, the authors will improve their language skills.

If we start accepting all authors' languages (Dutch, French, Broad Yorkshire, Walloon, Spanish, etc.), I'm afraid that most readers will run away.

For those whose command of English is very poor, their remains the possibility to post in the "Dutch/French" section of the forum.

Well, if you made it up to here, it shows that you know English well and can continue in that language.

As I said before, if one starts writing in swahili, tagaloc or bielorussian, no one will be interested in the forums anymore.

I totally agree that it should be English only in the main forums, this is an international site, as is aviation in general; that is why the language of aviation is English, so, many people can understand what is written down on these pages!

The Reverend Jesse Jackson once came on national television and said; "I'd be a shame to my people if I didn't TALK GOOD." So lets all speak well and have a great time. Nice site by the way.

I can only speak English well and it annoys me when I see something interesting in another language and can only half understand it. This is an international site so I support English only. After all there is a French/Germna/Dutch f9orum available

England (therefore the place where English originates!) is part of the UK. Full title is "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", Great Britain being the mainland comprising of Wales, Scotland and ENGLAND.

UK English is the standard upon which the other dialects/accents are built, be that US, RSA, Oz or Indian plus all the other places around the globe.

a- European - Asian - African English? What does it matter. It is only a vehicle.
b- This is an international site so I support English only.8O (Humberside)

No big problem with that, H. But in some cases, some protection is needed. If you cannot accept that, I'll move some of my topics/comments to the Dutch section or French or German, just tell me.
c- It is also a matter of tollerance: EUP respects over 20 languages. And that cannot be said about parliaments in Europe's neighouring states. Some countries there even forbid the language of their (large) minorities, isn't dyogen? So do not start with that!!!!

@ Some members of the forum: Do not impose your ignorance to the others, please. Make the effort to understand iso of imposing your will.
:!: In Paris they simply stared when I spoke to them in Fench. I never did succeed in making those idiots understand their own language. Author: Mark Twain

Note:
* What about your bottom line Advisor? What English is that?

If have chinese fonts on my PC, but please t y p e s l o w l y....
