Re: BRU Summer 2017: news, new routes, airlines
It looks like the politicians who announced the route were a little bit too optimistic. I didn't find any flights this year, neither in the Brussels Airport timetable, nor in the Hainan Airlines schedule.

Re: BRU Summer 2017: news, new routes, airlines
It was a joint announcement by BAC-Hainan as well when they signed a sort of letter of intent to launch the route.
I don't know what the exact timing was back then when they announced the firm intent for this route, but if it's delayed there can of course be many reasons: Hainan seeing a slower pick-up in market demand for travel to Western-Europe, Hainan having different priorities for their widebody aircraft (their 787's basically, I would expect that type to be the only viable option to make this long route make financial sense), Hainan being careful in their approach to see what Air Belgium is going to do (no, simply entering the market with the idea of 'we were first, so we are best' does not always work unlike what many here often seem to think), or something else, ...

Re: BRU Summer 2017: news, new routes, airlines
1.5.2017 : Finally two daily EY flights to AUH. One at 10.55 with A 330 and an other one at 17.25 with A 320 says BRU website. Error or reality ?SabenaForever wrote: ↑22 Dec 2016, 10:35 From 1 May 2017 Etihad will reschedule its BRU daily flights... all departures will switch to morningflights. It seems BRU will lose 1 weekly flight, 7 weekly iso 8 weekly!

Posted this in Janbrabel wrote: ↑06 Jan 2017, 19:56 Really looking forward to see new destinations in BRU this year...
Next to the already announced ones, looking forward to (maybe) see:
- Hainan to Shanghai
- Georgian Airways to Tbilisi and Yerevan
- SN adding more destinations (not only touristic islands served once weekly)
- Latam opening its European base
- Air Belgium hopefully kicking of in BRU
- ...
What do you guys think will happen/not happen?
Is Ryanair still going to expand more?
Is easyjet dying in BRU?
Is BRU going to grow again in 2017?
Will SN have been making profit or (small/big) loss in 2016?
So far lots of no's
no Hainan, no Latam, no Air Belgium, no Oman Air, no Georgian Airways, no Ryanair expansion
I really want to have some good news about at least one of the above.
Finally I can also add some yes's:
Yes, easyjet is dying (imo)
yes, BRU is growing again
yes, SN made profit
Re: BRU Summer 2017: news, new routes, airlines
A lot of those new ones, except Hainan who flies already to BRU, are looking and investigating what is going on at BRU regarding the penalties. To open a new route/line costs already a lot of money, if they also have to pay penalties on it, bcs most of those new companies to BRU will fly with the B787 and B777, than they are not eager to start and keep it on hold.brabel wrote: ↑26 Apr 2017, 21:15Posted this in Janbrabel wrote: ↑06 Jan 2017, 19:56 Really looking forward to see new destinations in BRU this year...

Re: BRU Summer 2017: news, new routes, airlines
Really strange, didn't find any info on this one.1.5.2017 : Finally two daily EY flights to AUH. One at 10.55 with A 330 and an other one at 17.25 with A 320 says BRU website. Error or reality ?
Maybe something in the pipeline for the future.
Something for the specialists here: wouldn't it be a little far for a A320 to fly AUH - BRU?
Re: BRU Summer 2017: news, new routes, airlines
I have mailed Etihad to get an answer!

Re: BRU Summer 2017: news, new routes, airlines
Seems doable but not economically realistic.
A320 ceo range at ISA conditions (+15°C).
A320 neo in same ISA conditions.
Neo is better performing but in both cases there is a payload penalty.
I didn't check the range when taking off at temps higher than ISA but it will be worse of course.
