to return to the question about short runways: I think about all of the contenders would be hard pressed to land on short runways like FLR or THF. The times I'm over there the only other jets I see are 146's or avro's.
So I think we will have a serious problem there.
I seem to recall that embraer put some special airbrakes on one of it's models to make landings in london city possible but I tought that would not be standard equipment on the series (sorry don't remember which one it is).
If those things are going to be installed on the 170/190 then I think that would be the only option for those 2 destinations. Then again they can also keep the 146's and use them for those fields (I know unpopular idea  )

Anyway, leasing the avro's for a further few years is "NOT an option" (a manager's words). So once they have to go they will have to go.

The original idea for replacements were the dornier-huppeldepup jet, but as the company went bankrupt that kinde spoiled a lot.

I heard about the fokkers being restarted by someone else but I don't think they will be ready by mid next year, because that will be the time the first few crews will be starting to convert as the first avro will leave our presence (sniff :D ) end 2004.

(I like them fokkers too)

Nice flying ya all.

Thanks!! It will be nice, just a 1h and 5 minutes flight to Lyon then I go on nightstop till tomorrow morning, then I'm finished at 08.05 AM !!

The bad thing is that we only have 9 economy-class passengers towards Lyon now and you surely don't want to 'perform' before no audience :( 8O

Well... it is known that SN BA has not so good figures during the weekend but this can improve... Anyway in 2 hours I'm at the pool sipping my cocktail ;-)

ciao,

Bart
P.S.: cocktail = alcoholfree 8)

PLEASE NOT A B717 ... !!!

I'd like to see SNBA flying a 318, but as mentioned earlier, it would be expencive ...

 BUT : JetBlue ordered both A320 and Embrear EMB-190 and the costs for EMB-190 were 0.01€ more per seat-mile than that of an A320 :!:

An A318 compared to an A320 :
It has less fuel, so it weighs less ...
It has a shorter fuselage, so it weighs less ...
It can carry less passengers, so it weighs less ...
So if it weighs less, why should it pay more landingtaxes :?:
Then why sould it be more expensive :?:

I personnally don't think SNBA would get CRJ's, don't know why, but I just don't think so ..

Again about short runways ... I know that Airbus was doing some wet runway tests on the short Florence runway with a A319 of Alitalia, and it was going well, so why shouldn't SNBA do the same once the A319 is certified for short field operations ...

Happy to hear that the SNBA management is not considering extending the lease of the current fleet of avro's.

To Bart: enjoy your night stop in Lyon !!!! What a life ... flying in company of good looking girls, work for only one hour, sleeping in nice hotels, eating at Bocuse, having some cocktails at the pool, ....

By the way .. I was already for some time wondering what the link could be between the daily babes and aviation. Now I find out !!!

The daily babes are Bart's female collegues which are making some extra money.

The flight crew pictures are for those you are a little bit shy, and the daily babe pages are for the others ....

As I said before ... great job, being purser at SNBA !!!

sorry to disappoint you there.
Most of our cabin crew aren't good looking (some even plain ugly), even if almost all of them are really nice . Don't forget about the more than average number of guys who would like you to pick up the soap (meaning more than 10%).
Plus Nightstop Lyon means sleeping in a mercure hotel about 40km from the city of Lyon (in the middle of an industrial park where there is absolutely nothing to do).
So yeah we would like to go to the restaurant of Bocuse but the taxi costs about 80 euro single way :-(
Really, don't think all those nightstops are so very glamourous, thay aint (maybe long haul are, but not here in Europe, at least not all of them)

But this isn't the right topic to talk about this right? Get back to the subject please

by the way Bart, don't pretend to be holier than the pope, I seem to remember some cocktails in Milan that were decidedly NOT non-alcoholic.

Sees ya all

hey avro, don't get me wrong I love the avro too, but you have to admit that it ain't the best performer out there is it now.
There are things you can do you couldn't even dream of doing on another plane (like 250kts till the outer marker, losing about all the altitude you want in no time,...), but that works both ways (we can't climb and we are really slow)
PLus I think it would be better for our ears (in the cockpit) if we got a less noisy aircraft.
Admitted, it's a great aircraft for the pax (lots of space and pretty quiet) but don't you think the new ones would be even better for them?

250kts till the outer marker, losing about all the altitude you want in no time,.
A few months ago I saw an SNBA ARJ on final rnwy 25R, it was decending with a nearly 45° angle 8O I hope there were no pax in there, because I don't think they like such thinks

I suppose you're right, they will have to leave the fleet, they've done a great job and now it's time to let other (better) planes do it.

That's what I want to hear  .

Well well, I returned from my nightstop and this topic has some action going on ;-) Where do I start ?

BBKing,

indeed it is a nice job! But as Dolfke said: sleaping at Mercure, it's nice at the pool with tennis, ping-pong, swimming, etc... About Bocuse... well... yesterday it was barbecue for 14 euro's! All inclusive and ... dessert (mjummy ;-) )

BBKing, I could only wish the daily babes worked for SN BA ;-) Dolfke is a little too critic on that as well :-)

Anyway, this is getting really :offtopic: here ;-) so let's get back to the topic, what was it all about ? Ah right.... the SN-fleet. Still waiting for André to put his poll in the topic ;-)

ciao,

Bart

That shows that the timetable managers still have a lot of work to improve schedules: less planes during week-ends, or, as I started to say at the beginning of this thread, smaller planes :!: which should be made available.

And why not? The MD80 was one of the quietest and most comfortable planes of its generation. Its updated version B717 should be at least as nice :D

Not only Olympic uses it, but JetBlue, if I am correct, recently completed its fleet of B717s.

I just did so. And I cast the first vote for the B717. The engines in the back provide for exceptional quietness in the cabin.

Managers should learn to manage. The Avros are popular economical jets and changing always involves costs. What would be the advantage of changing planes which are still modern and in good condition?

I voted for Embraer 170/190 :-)

Why ? Because I allready saw the aircraft in real and it is really luxurious!

Nice smooth engines, great leather seats, modern cockpit, modern cabin!! :-)

You will need a lot of photographic material before you can convince me to take another aircraft! ;-)

That will keep you fresh for the next morning's early flight 8)

Peanuts :!: compared to the price of the food there :P

It all depends on the numbers of drinks, Dolf. And even with NA beer - containing 1% alcohol - you can get drunk

Well, a demonstration plane always includes the nicest possible features. But when airlines order, they want their own specifications. That does not necessarily mean leather seats, a lot of legroom etc. If they decide to lower the purchase and operating cotss, they will opt for more seats in cheap fabrics with little legroom, etc.

Whatever the plane they choose

I've voted for the ERJ but I also wanted to vote for the B717 because i like both aircrafts.
Hope they'll order a mix of both airplanes

Not only luxurous. I saw the ERJ170 at le Bourget, and I must say, I was impressed of its performances. The Embraer 170 is a very good climber, is good for short runways and difficult approaches.... :D
