Say what now? So they broke off the apporach and flew back to BRU just for a small gear problem??

In LYS the aircraft would be stuck for a day or maybe two, whilst engineers and spares are flown in, whilst in BRU the aircraft may be serviceable again in a couple of hours.

What is your source that is was "just a small gear problem"?

We know that the aircraft was able to vacate the runway at BRU, but had to be towed to the stand. Me thinks that the crew wanted to avoid that the aircraft became stuck in Lyon, causing delays for a lot more passengers (still Brussels Airlines' first priority).

You work for a competitor airline, and that is probably (and once again) the reason for your sarcastic reply about Brussels Airlines. May I remind you that one of your B777's returned home last week after six hours flying, also for a minor technical problem as The Aviation Herald reported: "The airline reported a minor technical fault prompted the return" - see http://avherald.com/h?article=49ae8a9c&opt=0

By the way: OO-SSW picked up the stranded pax at Lyon yesterday evening.

Jetairfly's TB-504 OO-JDL (787) from Varadero/Cancun: ETA 06h15 is now delayed till 19h57 tonight.

Next flight TB-601 to Punta Cana had an ETD Saturday morning 09h00. This has been delayed into 20h00. Actually, all passengers (and/or their travel agents) have been advised a schedule change into 20h00.

Me thinks it would have been more polite from Jetair/Jetairfly to announce 21h30 as new departure time, because it was known that the 787 couldn't arrive in BRU before 20h today.

A too high utilisation rate of the aircraft, as predicted by some here a while ago. If SN wants to offer real service to their guest, they need a backup 330.
In case of a little mishap it takes days to absorb the delay, the same happens to OO-JDL.

There is much more to that story. You will need to contact the BA press office for that. There was nothing sarcastic about either. When you are able to taxi of the runway then the problem is indeed minor, this was nothing more than a money excercise. True the aircraft would have been AOG but Im sure SN has enough contingency in place for that.

by the way i wish it was "my B777" but unfortunatly it was a british airways one. Let's not overdramatise shall we?

On Saturday 16 July, Brussels Airlines flight SN3783 to Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), operated by A320 OO-SNG, had to return to BRU for a technical problem. It landed overweight (71.2 tonnes, 5t over the maximum) and was thus attended by the fire brigade to control an eventual overheating of the brakes.

The same aircraft eventually took off again with a delay of 2 hr 40 min.

Brussels Airlines passengers stranded in Rome following the cancellation of a flight

At present, only one passenger has no solution for a speedy return to Belgium.

145 Brussels Airlines passengers have been stranded at the airport of Rome. A technical problem was detected in the aircraft while they were boarding.

Their flight was scheduled for 17:45 Saturday. But because of the coup attempt in Turkey and strong winds, a number of flights were cancelled.

Brussels Airlines tried to accommodate a maximum of passengers, says the company.

But from the passenger point of view, the sound is not the same: "There is absolutely no care of the people by the company," said Frederic Jacob, one of the passengers on the flight.

"We have to take care of ourselves for the reservation of a hotel and as it is summer, all hotels in the airport area are full. We must also manage to find alternative flights as the company decided not to charter another plane."

Frédéric Jacob says they have not received any news from the company, no message, phone call or email from Brussels Airlines with the aim to find a solution for their return to Belgium.

Brussels Airlines apologises and explained on Sunday morning that the company will reimburse the hotel night and basic needs of passengers following the cancellation: "Many passengers were already stranded due to flight cancellations to Turkey. We have done our best but we did not always find a hotel. any costs will obviously be refunded. They will receive 250 euros. Our priority is to find a solution for the return, even via a flight on another airline," said the spokesman for Brussels Airlines.

All passengers have been able to return on a flight scheduled on Sunday or Monday.
