Why? What is wrong with everyone taking the same road? I don't remember ever having trouble (under normal circumstances) to get to the airport by road.
Many times, especially during peak moments in the morning you have a traffic jam entering the airport. With the arrival this year of Deloitte and next year of KPMG, two huge companies, you have to anticipate about the huge traffic who will come to the airport.
Now everybody is on the same road, people are losing time. It was a concern of both multinationals also about the traffic and access to the airport.

So better to have two separated road and to anticipate on it than after to receive a lot of complaints.

Does someone know when the construction of the new "ultra modern" fire brigade (near the airport mortuary) will start :?:

This morning I attended the press conference hosted by Brussels Airport, with three items on the agenda:
  • Key facts and figures 2015
  • Recovery after 22 March
  • Priorities for 2016
Presentation of Arnaud feist, CEO Brussels Airport
Presentation of Arnaud feist, CEO Brussels Airport
CEO Arnaud Feist gave some interesting figures:

On key facts and figures 2015
  • Between 2013 and 2015, BRU moved from No. 21 in Europe to No. 16
  • In 2015, for the second year in a row, BRU exceeded the record of 21.5 M pax of 2000, the last full year of Sabena operation
  • For 2016, despite the attacks, BRU hopes to reach 21-22 M pax.
  • In 2015 the pax can be categorised in the golloing segments: 54% short-haul, 14% long-haul, 17% low-cost and 15% leisure (incl. JAF and TCAB)
  • From 2000 to 2015 there have been 27% less flight movements
  • In parallel the average number of pax per flight has increased from 77 to 114 (with a low of 67 in 2002), both through an increase in the size of planes and a better load factor
  • Until 2015 the operating profit of BAC showed a strong growth to 201 M€, withy a 6.9% return on capital
  • The investments in BRU have also shown a strong growth year after year, up to 124 M€ in 2015
On recovery after 22 March

The 2016 weekly traffic figures showed an 8% growth over 2015 until the week of 11 March. After that, the traffic fell to zero for 10 days, and then gradually increased to almost completely recovering during the week of 20 May. But still now, passenger traffic is a few percentage points under the 2015 figures. If the transit traffic fell considerably with the departure of Jet Airways to AMS, the transfer traffic in creased considerably through the hub effect, especially thanks to SN.

Cargo traffic on the other hand grew with the return of Ethiopian Cargo, which even increased its presence from 5 flights a week before moving to MST to 12 flights a week now after coming back from MST. Belly cargo decreased due to a better passenger load factor allowing for less belly cargo.

On priorities for 2016

The overarching objective is to restore Brussels Airport's full economic activity as soon as possible, in order to support Belgium's employment, added valu and connectivity. Three ways: traffic development (hope for 21-22 M pax in 2016), infrastructure/operational processes (new technologies for check-in and baggage tracking), medium- and long-term strategic development (2016-2020 strategy unchanged after the attacks, 204 Master Plan).

Q&As

The airport has now reached the same level as before the attacks. the controls are very fluid and allow for a 45 minutes time frame between parking and arrival at the gate.

The parking will be improved (kiss & ride), as well as the arrivals area to allow relatives and friends to fetch arriving passengers.

Somebody asked me the question about a gate for the A380. It remains on the drawing board, although it has been delayed somewhat. But before proceeding further, it needs the interest of airlines (the investment is some 10 M€).

In September, a new Starbucks café will open at the same place as before. But the SN ticketing desk that has been destroyed by one of the explosions will move to the opposite site of the departure hall.

The statue of Strebelle has been dismantled (it was damaged by an explosion) and will be erected again in a different place as a commemorative monument.

The businesses of the arrivals area have lost 70% of their turnover. Discussions with the Federal Police will enable the public to come in the building again.

Building 4 used to be one big hangar, capable of handling 2 A300s. Recently this building had been divided up in two parts. DHL is (temporarily) still using the eastern part for some services, while the Flying Group is now renting the western part.

A new tender is signed for the complete renovation of the Skyhall on the tarmac side. Finally this "old look" will disappear.

Does the tender include the design, or has an architect already presented a project?

If an architect would already presented a design, a tender was not needed than anymore. For what???

A tender means that a company, BAC, has a plan to do something. In this tender is mentioned what has to be done, if it will be only for Belgian companies, European companies or a worldwide tender, like in case of the A-pier West.
So, the tender is open and possible candidates can apply, present their offer.

For building the design maybe???

A tender for just Belgian companies will never happen, as it would be an obvious violation of EU law...

Sorry to disagree with you Jetter on both ways.

1) If there was already an architect, that you don't need a new tender anymore. You don't understand the point and what it means. Bcs when you have already a design and a tender than it is obvious that you have also the other parties. A tender is for everything.

2) It seems that you don't have any knowledge how tenders works. The renovation of the runways is a Belgian one which Belgian construction companies can apply on it. Mostly, the last years, it always the same company who will do this.
In case of the construction of the new A-Pier West, it was an international tender.

You're mistaken on both.

1) You can tender the construction after a design has been decided. This is known as the 'design–bid–build' delivery method. Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design%E2 ... 80%93build):

"There are three main sequential phases to the design–bid–build delivery method:
The design phase
The bidding (or tender) phase
The construction phase"

2) It's not allowed to exclude companies from other EU countries, that simple. Check EU-directive 2014/25 which states:

Article 12
"This Directive shall apply to activities relating to the exploitation of a geographical area for the purpose of the provision of airports and maritime or inland ports or other terminal facilities to carriers by air, sea or inland waterway."

Article 36
"Contracting entities shall treat economic operators equally and without discrimination and shall act in a transparent and proportionate manner."

Apparently the old terminal will be converted into the future pre entry screening platform and the old departures 'curb' will never return. The walkway in front of the building will be seperated from the curb with a fence.

So Brussels will be the only airport with screening in all the EU I thought it was temporarily!!!!

That's crazy I just dropped my cousin in Schiphol and there it's open and wide and very well done.

And Brussels will do it on Isreali's way I don't like that the Police has to much power in this country.

If it's like that I will not use Brussels any more to protest against that!

Nope. Charleroi too.

Nope. It's the unions that have too much power in this country. Not the Police.

OK, your protest is noted. Have fun with the road trips to Amsterdam or Dusseldorf (altough I think that going through that extra safety check at BRU will be faster).

While I also think the prechecks are more security theater than anything else, not using the airport anymore because of something that takes you a maximum of five munites (if you're picked to undergo the extra check) and driving a few hours out of your way because of it is, quite frankly a childish and pathetic move. It's 'Kid throwing his toys out of the pram' territory...

All true but those from Breda and Aachen might decide to stay away. Anyhow... the terrorists aren t gone and I suspect BRU and IST not to be the last airports to be under attack and other airports might take stupid decisions as well...
