Hi Atlantis,

In that case... even if it's spread over the years... woaw!

I think to augment the use of public transport to the airport initially the frequency during weekends and the amplitude in general should be augmented so the complete timetable has train connections.

Personally I almost always take the train to the airport on weekdays and without to much luggage: we have a direct connection every hour with a decent amplitude: departures as from 6:30 and arrivals until 22:30 are reachable. so no early morning / late night charter flights.

However, during weekends the frequency drops to one train every two hours and the amplitude drops as well, so then I take the car.

Are the plans for the tram still as described in the PDF I mentioned in my post? They should augment the use of public transport from the Brussels city center...

Cheers,

Stij

Our discussion was picked up by our colleague's from the railways...
http://www.hgbtf.net/viewtopic.php?p=223336#p223336 in Dutch...

And they have some info as well from their side!

Main points:

- The railway station is foreseen for 5 platforms. This shouldn't be very difficult.
- Tripling capacity is difficult because of the level crossings (as I wrote above).

Cheers,

Stij

P.S. Atlantis, you have a good reputation! ;-)

If I count well, I count 8 platforms: 4 dead end tram only (Brussels only) and 4 through bus + tram (Tram Brussels to / from Haacht via Airport).
Access to these platforms would be by escalators from the railwaystation: the transportation hub, not only for the airport, but also for all the business parks around it.

Atlantis, could it be these 8 platforms are included in your 10 platforms?

Cheers,

Stij
Where in this brochure you see the tramstation BRU is planning to one day build a new terminal, if I'm correct.

I imagine they could build it above it?

An entire terminal? I guess they'll need pretty big support colums makingg it not easy to have a tram-/busstation...

Don't they already leave from Pier B (except of course for the YYZ flight that doesn't exist yet) ?

Nope, JFK and IAD were accommodated in the T zone up until now however in the past when the IAD flight left in the afternoon it indeed also left from pier B

With no less than 3 transatlantic flights of theirs leaving from the B pier, I suppose they will start looking into expanding their rather smallish lounge in that part of the terminal: it's ok for short haul flights to the UK, but its not nearly as good as that brilliant loft they run in the A pier.
Given jetairways will certainly close their lounge when they pull out of BRU, there's definitely a nice space available for a quick swap, or do they have other plans?

I read 4 gates in the B pier fro SN, for 3 daily flights... ;-)
Someone's expecting non-African growth!
