Will there ever be a Belgian 747 again? + Poll

Post by Lars »

Everybody knows the Boeing 747 is the most beautiful aircraft on earth. A 747 is the visiting card of every airline. And as you know, there are for the moment no Belgian 747's anymore...

So, what do you think: will there ever be a Belgian 747 again? Someday?

Maybe SNBA for the transatlantic flights in the future? Please tell me I'm not dreaming!

Lars,
I think you're dreaming for the moment . SNBA would never use a B747 on transatlantic flights for two reasons. the first one is the competition on that route is very hard and you don't need so many seat especially not out of BRU and secondly they are very happy with the code share flights for the moment.

Maybe we'll see one day a belgian B747 again (I really hope so) but I don't think this will happen in the near future especially not for BRU.
You could of course imagine that SNBA could one day use B747's on the African destinations who work well, but I think they'll stick with the Airbus family. Maybe we'll se one day an A340-600 of SNBA. I think that's more realistic than the legendary jumbo jet.

Keep dreaming
Chris

I think there a bigger chance to have a Belgian 747 , but then not for passengers, but for cargo. Maybe TNT or DHL will use 747's in the future ...
Although I don't think TNT will use 747 again. They used an Atlas Air 747-400 last year, but disposed of it after 2 months, because it wasn't as proffitable as the other aircraft they have.

In short :
Although there's a bigger chance to see a Belgian cargo 747 than a Belgian passenger 747, the chance is still pretty slim ...

I agree with EBOS that a Belgian 747F is more likely than a passenger aircraft. If a company like Cargolux can set up a fleet of 747Fs in a tiny country like Luxembourg, it should a fortiori be possible in Belgium as well.

Surely not - impressive yes, but the most beautiful - that honour must be reserved for the Lockheed Super Constellation in the civilian world and the F-104 Starfighter where noise and flame live. The Lump (747) is just a huge efficient load carrier whilst the Connie is art in flying form - no comparison.

If you all disagree perhaps we should have a poll!!!

Good point, Meerkat. Let Luchtzak organise a poll. In my opinion, the Caravelle should also be in the honour list of the most beautiful commercial aeroplanes.

yep, and there should also be the CONCORDE.

I don't think that DHL will use some 747 in the near future either. EAT the opeator here in belgium does only euopean flights and they have now grown and nearly replaced all 727's. Maybe they'll replae the old A300B4-203F with A300-600F in the future (that's what I heard), but even if they grow much they won't do the long haul flights yet. Those are done by Cathay Pacific(742), World(MD11), DHL(DC-8).

What about that B747-400F leased by TNT and registered as OO-TJA ?

EBOS, is that the one TNT leased last year but was disposed of after some months ? It flew at least 7 months (spotted between Oct 02 and Apr 03; maybe even longer?) as OO-TJA.

Veldmuis,

The OO-TJA returned back to its owners Atlas Air, it is now registered as N464MC. I will put the aircraft in the Luchtzak Aircraft registration database. Lets hope it will reture to Belgium, maybe with the problems that Atlas Air is facing (Look whit the news).

Dave

 Because you allready took the name I wanted to take
 Because the avro is the most beautiful aircraft of the regional jets, and in a way it's also a jumbo. Swiss calls them jumbolino

Hey guys, have you ever seen how nice the MD-11 looks?

I agree, Chris, one should make a poll. To do that, Lars should edit his first message in this thread. OK Lars?

The A330 and MD-11 are for sure very nice planes, but none of them has a better look than the B747

We still can go for a very long time in this discussion, but for me the bulk on the front-top of the B747 is awkward.

Where is that poll that Lars should start?

A good start, but due to the limitations of the poll, one should have restricted the choice to the existing wide-bodies.

And, by the way, the MD-10 should be called MD-11 (or DC-10, but this one isn't made anymore) ;-)
