Another harrassment of passengers at Brussels Airport on Monday 03 August: customs will check luggage "thoroughly" at least ten minutes per passenger".

Reason: "...protest against the malfunction of the new automatic safety gates..."

I just read the article above and I cannot find any mention of customs agents being involved.
Can anyone confirm who exactly is going to 'harnas the passengers'? ( what exactly is the english for 'stiptheidsactie'? Is it 'work to rule'?)

1. I quote from deredactie.be = Flemish state tv: "...Het veiligheidspersoneel gaat onder meer de bagage extra streng controleren... "...We plannen extra controles bij bepaalde passagiers. Zo'n controle kan snel 10 minuten extra in beslag nemen... "We voeren ook extra controles uit op de goederen die de luchthaven binnenkomen en bij de luchtvaartmaatschappijen..."

Translated: the safety staff will, very severely, control luggage... We will do additional checks at certain passengers... This will take 10 minutes per passenger... We will also do additional checks on goods/cargo that arrive at the airport and additional checks on the goods/cargo with the airlines...

2. "Work to the rule": would be great to know where in the official rules it is written that staff may voluntary delay passengers with additional checks because the unions, as they state themselves in their press release, do that only as a protest against a malfunction system. Voluntary delaying passengers: I indeed call that "to harrass the passengers".

I was just wondering who will be affected, arriving or departing pax.
Customs checks are usually for arriving pax but the articles advise passengers to arrive early at the airport so that would suggest departing passengers are most affected.

First press reports (like HLN.be - update 10h00) mention that there is nowhere a queue at Brussels Airport. Extra controls on the tarmac, but Brussels Airport flight info doesn't show delays neither.

Minister Jacqueline Galant will meet unions representing the security personnel (NOT the customs, who are not on strike) on 10 September.

It seems that the social elections (2016) have already started for some unions. The Red Brigade (ABVV/FGTB, that is) have rejected the above meeting: "it's too late", they say, and they want a meeting before 15th August, otherwise they will harden their protest.

Contrary to what the unions say with their "50 times", the system (= automatic control and supervision) has only failed once since March: the Vueling incident.

Today's view point of the unions: '"we demand within 48 hours that a crisis committee is established, if not..."

Meanwhile, the guys with the green jackets (ACV/CSC) say that they agree with the meeting (with Galant) that is set for 10th September.

They should start to realize that their blackmail is more and more unacceptable.

Work-to-rule actions by Brussels Airport security services are called off after a meeting between the unions and Brussels Airport Company management (without intervention of Minister Galant).

Part of the staff of Aviapartner has stopped work this afternoon at Brussels Airport. A trade union delegation is scheduled to meet the leadership of the company in the evening , says Sophie Crombain Liberal union CGSLB .

According to Ms. Crombain , the conflict involves several problems. "
- The staff is tired of working understaffed and is fed up with the problems of hardware.
- They want a new car park because the current one is much too far from the airport . "
- The staff also refuses to work without air conditioning.

A series of strikes have been called by Spanish airport workers over four days in September.

The airport handlers are due to walk out in the peak morning and evening periods - from 4.30am to 7.30am and 7.30pm to 9.30pm - on September 4, 11, 18 and 25.

The action is expected to affect airports at Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, Malaga and Majorca.

A ground handling services strike by Groundforce staff at Lisbon (LIS), Porto (OPO) and Madeira (FNC) is due for August 29th and 30th. This could affect the check in and boarding in all flights in these airports.
