Passagiers Kuifje-vliegtuig keren terug uit Lissabon

Most of the passengers are returning today
Cause of the collision is unknow. Investigation is ongoing.
A lot of complaints among the passengers. A lot of them had to go and look for a hotel and food on their own, from their own wallet. All they received was one glass of water. The airline didnt inform how things were going to be organised which let to serious discussions in the evening between passengers and ground crew.

Yes we did inform Lissabon station about how the handle the cancellation but they we not really able to handle the situation. We told them to rebook the passengers , to offer care ( hotel , meals , phone ) but it seems that the ticketing their is not really qualified. The phoned us very often to ask to rebook passengers while they have to do it at their side.
Best regards,

Who is responsible for what doesnt really matter in the end for the passenger. Other airlines are often flamed down here on this forum for not providing adequate assistance to their pax. This just goes to show that no airline is immune to this and that it's not even always in the airline's control.

Oh I see and now all of the suddon HLN is a good source...sean1982 wrote:Passagiers Kuifje-vliegtuig keren terug uit Lissabon

Re: Tintin Logo Jet Brussels Airlines (Kuifje)
Nope it isnt. Still stays a shit newspaper. But let's be honest here, if it would have been FR .. There would have been a seperate flaming topic allready with a title by the likes off:"Ryanair passengers left stranded in Lisbon!". Please read my second post too
Re: Tintin Logo Jet Brussels Airlines (Kuifje)
If this is what happened, it's no good. period!
But while for one airline this is the exeption, for the other it is the norm. In this case, it is the exeption, and I'm sure it will be internally investigated, and measures will be taken to prevent it happening again.

Re: Tintin Logo Jet Brussels Airlines (Kuifje)
The norm with the LCCs, I am familiar with, is that: a replacement aircraft would have been flown to LIS and passengers would have been home the same day.
When I flew for FR they had around 150 aircraft, about 5 were standby to cover mishaps like this one.

Re: Tintin Logo Jet Brussels Airlines (Kuifje)
It seems SN did a lousy job in this instance, both on the re-booking and the assistance to the stranded pax. They also had half a day to send a replacement aircraft, which they failed to do. A bit disappointing imho.
Re: Tintin Logo Jet Brussels Airlines (Kuifje)
Do someone knows what will happen right now with this aircraft?
Back to BRU to be repaired. Staying at LIS for repair by SN Technicians ?

Re: Tintin Logo Jet Brussels Airlines (Kuifje)
The damage to the intake assy it too extensive to repair "on wing", it will have to be replaced befor flight. Not a big job by the way, but it doesn't fare well for the paint scheme...nordikcam wrote:Do someone knows what will happen right now with this aircraft?

Other area's will require attention as well, the engine itself, pylon and wing structure will probably have to be inspected before flight.

Does that pilot have a driving license?

Re: Tintin Logo Jet Brussels Airlines (Kuifje)

I'm very dissapointed. Who has destroyed my shark submarine ?
Re: Tintin Logo Jet Brussels Airlines (Kuifje)
Judging by the way the metal is folded (inboard instead of backwards, the way I see it), I'd hazard a guess and say the boarding bridge actually drove into the aircraft, not the other way around.convair wrote:Does that pilot have a driving license?

Re: Tintin Logo Jet Brussels Airlines (Kuifje)
Someone asked about the legal aspect of this delay (EU-Rule 261/2004): indemnity or not?
The collision (bridge against aircraft or aircraft against bridge) doesn’t qualify as an extraordinary circumstance if one takes that definition solely as “unpredictable, unavoidable and external”. Indeed: it was avoidable when all involved had followed their rules and instructions.
However, errare humanum est and ground accidents should always be seen as unavoidable, given the high risk for all involved and the precaution that rules for aircraft/airport activities. The non-official list for the review of a Rule that dates from 2004, presented by the European National Enforcement Bodies in April 2013, is clear: this Tintin incident is an extraordinary circumstance. The NEB’s call it like this (see 19. in their list, link below): “Damage to the aircraft primary or secondary structure (e.g. metallic or composite structure) caused by third parties on the ground prior to the departure of a flight and requiring immediate assessment and/or repair. For example a collision between an airport vehicle and an aircraft.”
This means that no indemnity has to be paid, but that all other articles from the EU-Rule apply. The airline has to assist the pax: tell them what's going on, reroute them if possible, and cover all costs: hotel, meals, drinks, 2 telephone calls, taxi or transfer costs.
Now, about the so call misstreatment in Lisbon: I saw about a dozen press reports about the collision, and only source (HLN.be) reported only once that the assistance in Lisbon was not like it should be according to the EU legislation and according to what one would expect from Brussels Airlines. That one report stated that some people had to stay the night at the airport and that only drinks were offered. But the same news source wrote a few hours later that all passengers were booked into a hotel. If indeed some people had to stay at the airport overnight, I think that they are entitled to a moral damage of the value of a hotel night DBB plus drinks. I’m pretty sure that Brussels Airlines will aknowledge/admit that their local agent has made an error by not giving them a hotel (that is, if the one report is correct).
