Re: Ryanair in 2015
Ryanair, Europe’s favourite airline, today (5 May) lowered its airport check-in fees and missed departure fee, the latest initiatives under the second year of its 3-year “Always Getting Better” customer experience improvement programme.
Ryanair’s airport check-in fee has been reduced from €70 to €45, and its missed departure fee has been reduced from €110 to €100.

What you call a fee, is actually a penalty. Just check the latest comments about this on AirlineQuality.comairazurxtror wrote:Ryanair, Europe’s favourite airline, today (5 May) lowered its airport check-in fees and missed departure fee, the latest initiatives under the second year of its 3-year “Always Getting Better” customer experience improvement programme. (http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/ryan.htm). I don't think that reducing the penalty from 70€ to 45€ will avoid that passengers from the Worlds Most Used But At The Same Time Worlds Less Liked Airline will now post that they're very happy with the 45€:
"...I recently flew to Dublin with Air Lingus but had to return with Ryanair. Having arrived late on the Friday night I was up again early next day to work and meetings in the city and was lucky enough to catch the Bath v Leinster cup game in the afternoon. However, that left little time to make it to the airport for the return flight, which I did. On arrival I was chastised for not having printed off a boarding pass. How I was expected to do that heavens only knows but that fell on deaf ears and I had to pay up 70 euros extra to get on board. The dismissive attitude I encountered was galling and not what I would expect from an airline. I had heard many horror stories of how this company manage to find more ways than others to get you to part with your money for the slightest reason. That said, I wont make the same mistake twice, because I wont be using them again!..." (3th May, passenger T Quarmby)
"...Enjoyed a wonderful nine day break in Spain/Portugal. This whole break was marred by the Ryanair who think its acceptable to charge 140 euros for a two minute process of online check in which I had already done - funny how all our personal/passport details were already there along with the 'premium' seats I booked at the time of online checking in of our return flight. As we were in remote places with an old blackberry phone we were prepared to pay the still unreasonable boarding pass printing charge. Ryanair are in the position where they can hold you hostage until you pay. Their trump card is the fact we all have to get home even if it means paying a ransom to get there and they are not interested in considering the 'customer' might be right..." (23th April, passenger J Jones)
But then, luckily there is http://www.ryanair.com/nl-be/feedback-van-klanten/ where one can read the above is untrue...

Re: Ryanair in 2015
Thank you for the reference.
The critics about Ryanair are easy to find - so are critics about any airline; out of curiosity, I looked for your favourite airline : not very favourable either !
http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/jetairfly.htm
One of the toilets was broken despite the aircraft being only a year old.
I was offered an exceptionally watered down cup of stained milk otherwise known as tea! This was additional to the very disappointing meal.
Disembarkation was one of the worst I have seen in years as the crew were oblivious to the couple with the screaming baby who blocked the aisle and also prevented passengers from removing their belongings from two of the overheard lockers.
When we finally started our journey the plane was delayed 3.5 hours, the comfort class booked did not have all the service elements described or offered, from no blankets to many other things. Because the delay connections in Brussels were missed the airline offered zero help.
If you have a choice of flying another carrier - please do.
Crew were rude to passengers and offered no choice of food (front seats got beef, middle of plane fish, rear seats chicken). Crew were busy talking among themselves, no attention whatsoever for the passengers.
Yesterday I experienced the worst customer service from an airline that I have experienced. When checking in for my return flight from Palma to Oostende the procedure was completely a shambles and when you take it up with the staff you are met with such rude attitude. In all my years of travelling I have never experienced such rude staff as I saw in action yesterday. The flight itself back to Oostende was in an aircraft that is showing its age but clearly TUI can't be bothered to clean it. Even the chewing gum on the seat in front of me was not even cleaned off. All in all an experience that I never want ever again.
rude staff on both flights - you have to sleep when they tell you and read when they allow you to
And so on ...

Re: Ryanair in 2015
Had a flight from Brussels to Ouagadougou Burkina Faso which was scheduled 4 hour and 55 minutes. They re routed us with other flights to Accra Ghana then to Abdijan then to Ouagadougou to pick up more passengers. We flew right over Ouagadougou and this added 5 hours 20 minutes to our route. They did not apologize or care for the huge problems it caused or keeping us on a plane against our will for an additional 5 hours 20 minutes. I will never fly this airline again!
Our outward flight to Barcelona from Birmingham was delayed by 6 hours without explanation. The return flight was delayed by 14 hours, once again without explanation. The seats are uncomfortable. The hotel that we were put up in was a cheap, transit type hotel, with poor beds, bedding and pillows. There were no curtains at the window either. The airline is trying to portray itself as a large national carrier, but it is nothing more than a tin-pot, disorganised budget airline. However, the staff were friendly and did try to assist with our questions. I will never fly with this airline again and would suggest if you read this you heed my advice.
We recently flew with this airline from Brussels to Lyon, France. An hour before departure, with our boarding passes already in hand, we discovered that the flight had been cancelled. A half-mile trek back to their desk and we were informed that we would be put on a flight to Geneva and then a bus to Lyon. There were about thirty of us and when we arrived in Geneva we had to wait in the baggage claims area for an hour and a half-standing, until the bus arrived. We arrived about 4 hours late in Lyon. No excuse was given for the cancellation and when I wrote to the airlines for an explanation I received no reply in return.

People complaining about the €70 cost to print your boarding pass are just daft. You (should) know that ridiculous cost is there, it's part of the game. This is like complaining that fines for speeding are there to fill the pockets of the government. Don't wanna pay? Respect the rules, print your boarding pass and keep to the speed limit.
Re: Ryanair in 2015
Indeed. Agree. You speed = you pay. However, this would be the Irish way: they catch you at 130 km/h on your way to the airport, at 03h a.m. You will not have to pay a direct fine of 50 € (onmiddellijke inning/perception immédiate), but they send you to the police tribunal, where the police judge condemns you to the maximum fine for speeding: 300 € plus 150 € contribution for the Traffic Victim Fund. It’s 100% legal, but you will feel ripped off. Just like the American tourists feel ripped off when they have to pay 140€ because they didn't know they had to check-in online.b-west wrote:People complaining about the €70 cost to print your boarding pass are just daft. Personally, I think that fooling people into buying a premium product but then providing a low cost product at twice the price is much worse. It's like selling champagne but putting cava in the bottle
Re: Ryanair in 2015
But why is Ryanair about the only airline to charge for what most other airlines consider as a basic service and do for free?

Most other airlines perhaps do it for free - only having first charged their customers five or ten times more for the ticket ...sn26567 wrote:But why is Ryanair about the only airline to charge for what most other airlines consider as a basic service and do for free?

Re: Ryanair in 2015
Kenny Jacobs, chief marketing officer of Europe's leading low-cost carrier, told today's Travel Distribution Summit in London that from the end of September regular customers will start to get a very different experience.
"If you want to travel short-haul in Europe you come to the airline first. We therefore have a better chance to own more of that relationship with the customer, manage it the right way and you can get more of that share of their travel wallet. This is something airlines do not think of.
"From the end of September you will see us merchandise flights in a different way. If you fly regularly we will be presenting our products in a much more interesting way."
Jacobs said it remained to be seen what range of products people are prepared to buy from Ryanair but he expected the work it has done to soften its image with consumers will see them prepared to buy a Ryanair holiday within a year.

Re: Ryanair in 2015
Why do they do it? Because they earn money out of it. They're a commercial organisation trying to earn money, nothing wrong with it. Other airlines choose a different strategy. In the end it's up to the consumer to decide whether they want to play along or not. Personally, I don't fly Ryanair because of their bully attitude. But I'm clearly a minority, as their load factors show, so their plan obviously works. Too bad people who do fly them feel the need to complain when they are confronted with the fees and penalties that Ryanair is known for.sn26567 wrote:But why is Ryanair about the only airline to charge for what most other airlines consider as a basic service and do for free?

If you book a hotel room only, and you suddenly want breakfast too, do you need to pay for it?sn26567 wrote:But why is Ryanair about the only airline to charge for what most other airlines consider as a basic service and do for free?
And bwest, that "bully" attitude has been long gone. For what it's worth, I convinced a good friend of my dad who is a manager of a medium-sized company in Vilvoorde (and who point blank refused to fly FR for the same reason) to take Ryanair once for a trip to Barcelona iso SN. Now his company that is shuttling more or less 15 employees between Barcelona and BRU are flying FR in business plus iso SN, because according to him, there is no difference at all and it costs him 1000's of € less per month. Just saying.
Re: Ryanair in 2015
Every airline has its pro's and con's. With Ryanair you know what to expect. Flew once with them CRL-MAD return and expected not very much. Had only hand luggage, wasn't the fastest to reach the plane but had decent seats anyway. They got me there and back safely and relatively on time, so I was satisfied customer. I have two children now and will only book package holidays anyways, but if it still was just me and my wife I'd go for the best deal overall, no matter if it's SN or FR or someone else...
As a Belgian I like to see 'my' home carrier perform well, but I wouldn't hesitate to take FR if it suits me... I just regret this ever lasting pissing game. You don't like FR, don't fly them.

Indeed the pissing comes off BOTH sides and in fact it isn't even needed, obviously discussion is healthy but just stick to facts and keep things on a decent level...OO-ITR wrote:Oh strange because I don't have the impression that the pissing comes from one side only!!!Conti764 wrote:I just regret this ever lasting pissing game. and speaking about facts SN and a lot of others have learnt things from FR (the inspiration for the check&go fare hasn't to be searched that far ) and the other way around FR learned things from the legacy carriers and other LCC's + let's not forget FR amongst with other LCC's brought in a healthy dose of competition into aviation which in fact brought a lot of benefits for the costumers, I think everyone agrees on that one
