Yes Conti, you are THE good guy and everyone who disagrees with you is irresponsible...

Nice mentality indeed...

Explain how these people are extremely privileged people to start with... I'm very curious right now because many people always pretend to know everything about everything without knowing anything...

But if your last post is everything you have to say, it maybe is better to end discussion.

You start with the wrong pretence... It's not the polices job to get you through passportcontrol as quick as possible, but to do a thorough check to make sure only the right people pass. If they are given proper workforce and infrastructure to do it quickly, great. But the truth is they lack both and it's a shame you get yesterdays results when they do their jobs loke it should...

But hey, bad mentality...

The long queues at BRU (non-Schengen passport control) are there again this morning....

And, as a reminder, ATC strike in Italy from 1300 to 1700 CET.

I don't think this action is taken on a whim, those who follow the media know that the airport police has been protesting against a lack of staff for a few years now. Previous talks with the government didn't lead to results and there have been smaller actions before, with less impact on the passengers. I think it's regrettable that it had to come to this.

Only two weeks ago the magazine Humo gave us some insight in how cash strapped the federal police really is, having to do their specialised duties with outdated material, and an increasingly ageing workforce, as there are fewer new recruits being hired to replace those leaving the force.

@ Conti

The very same control at CDG merely takes a few seconds per person. And their border police doesn't seem to be complaining they can't do a proper job. Don't be so easily fooled by unions' arguments!

And, fyi, yes, I want our border police to do a proper job too, just as at CDG...

The police unions and the minister of Home Affairs (Jan Jambon) have signed an agreement. Seems a time schedule has now been set for the 35 additional f/t that were agreed upon by the previous government.

What happens if the fire alarm goes on when the police blocks everything ?
My messages reflect my personal opinion which may be different than yours. I beleive a forum is made to create a debate so I encourage people to express themselves, the way they want, with the ideas they want. I expect the same understanding in return.

There are emergency procedures for such things. The jetways and tarmac are easy emergency exits

Most of the De Lijn buses to/from Brussels Airport are operating services today. Also STIB/MIVB bus line 12 to the Airport is functioning. But no trains....

.. all the difference between National and Regional ...

(and the STIB/MIVB unexpectedly on the "other side", good for them!)

(sorry for diverting into politics, but how can that be avoided on a subject starting off in the political corner?)

Then again, I remember coming from Hong Kong, with the border at CDG open and unmanned. That's also one way to prevent lengthy waiting times. The number of passengers coming in through France without getting a Schengen entry stamp is baffling... When arriving on the Eurotunnel as well the French border control officer just waved our car through, even though my partner isn't an EU citizen.

Strike by TAP Portugal Pilot's Union, 01-10 May 2015:

Press release TAP:

The flights whose operation is ensured by minimum services announced yesterday by the Arbitral Tribunal were already set and the list can be checked at the link below.

TAP requests its passengers to check if their flights are included in the attached list and reconfirm the reservation with TAP or Travel Agency.

The remaining flights are not cancelled. TAP will be permanently checking the possibilities to operate each flight, depending on the available pilots at each moment.

Nevertheless, all passengers have the possibility of changing the flights to alternative dates outside the period of the strike, without additional costs, or request the issuance of a Travel voucher to use with TAP within 1 year after the issuance.

TAP regrets all this situation and works actively to minimize all the inconveniences that the Pilots’ Union strike may cause to all its customers.

The strike of the TAP Portugal pilots didn't have too much affect (except perhaps on the losses of the company). On the 8th day of the 10-day strike, it appears that 70% of the flights have been operating. There was a minimum of one flight a day to BRU, but often there were more.

FINNISH AVIATION UNION'S STRIKE THREAT WITHDRAWN

2015-05-16

Finnish Aviation Union’s strike threat for 19 and 20 May has been withdrawn. The strike threat was related to a dispute of a collective labour agreement applied to a Finnish ground handling company. Finnair was not a party to the dispute in any way.

Customers who have changed their flights due to the strike threat can, if they wish, change their flights back to original flights. Any changes must be done before the departure of the new flight.

About 100 SAS flights cancelled to day because of a pilot strike, including SK589 ARN-BRU.

The strike has been called off, but the cancellations remain.

Any idea of tomorrow's flight? Based on your comments it should be operated? I'm flying SK590 BRU-ARN...
