Re: BRU Summer 2015: latest news, routes, airlines
* Air Malta will offer two extra flights to Malta -> 7 to 9 flights during the summer.
The two extra flights are morning flights.
Also Brussels Airlines will offer more flights to Malta during the Summer.
* Sunexpress will also land again at Brussels Airport after they ceased their ops at BRU. They will offer two
weekly flights to Izmir as from 30 June.

Good opportunity for SN, for at least one of these 2 cities!
Re: BRU Summer 2015: latest news, routes, airlines
I guess the budget of SN for the summer is now closed. However before going to Leipzig or Dresden, I think there are some destination more interesting for SN in Germany like Bremen or Nuremberg, it would be nice as well to code share with Germanwing for the flight from/to Stuttgart. And why not some feeding destination like Cologne and Dusseldorf (or a direct Thalys/bus service)

Was expected. There were signs already for it for a long time that they were not doing good
Re: BRU Summer 2015: latest news, routes, airlines
Tomorrow: first Vueling flight on the Brussels - Bilbao route, in competition with SN.

Not at the moment

Niki has abandoned plans to establish a base out of Bratislava. The Air Berlin subsidiary had originally intended to offer flights from the Slovakian capital to Brussels, Palma de Mallorca and Vienna starting this month before deferring that date to October.
While it did not offer any further explanation, it is believed Ryanair's decision to develop the airport into a base with two B737-800s, in addition to opening up flights to Palma as well as Brussels Charleroi, played a critical role in the decision.

If everything will stay like it is then Emirates will come on 18 september with their A380 to Brussels Airport.
The type of aircraft is already loaded in their system but it still can change of course.
Emirates is doing well on the route and requested already a second daily flight and between the lines they spoke about sending an A380 to BRU on a regular basis or daily basis.
I suppose that it will be a test flight to check how quickly they can handle an A380 here.

But how can they test that, BRU does not have the right infrastructure yet, or did I miss something?

Re: BRU Summer 2015: latest news, routes, airlines
IMHO it's a political campaign stunt from Emirates.
It's no secret Belgium is in the camp of EU countries which is taking an increasingly critical stance against the massive expansion by gulf carriers thanks to their unlimited access to government money, fearing this may ultimately lead to a distruction of domestic jobs as they benefit from an uneven playing field.
As such, a positive PR buzz through sending an A380 to underscore how well their route is doing and how beneficial that could be for the airport if it were to become a routine flight, is always welcome.
I suggest not to be blinded by the gloss; maybe some critical question should be asked at the event about the negative consequences on the chances of BRU to gain non-stop Asian flights in future because of their capacity dumping.
personally, I'd trade in all those gulf carriers for 1 or 2 non-stop flights right away: much more added value for the Belgian economy. Time to revise the Belgian-UAE bilateral I'd say, if we ever want to have those very important daily non-stops to Japan or even more so Changai and Singapore etc.

Runway 25R and some taxiways are ready for A380 ops (and probably runway 25L after the major renovation).
I think Pier B can accommodate the A380 (even if boarding bridges are not optimal) but did the handling companies buy pushback tractors for A380?

Re: BRU Summer 2015: latest news, routes, airlines
But that's the problem for years they refused to fly to BRU they went out to bigger hub's like Franfurt or Paris etc...Inquirer wrote:IMHO it's a political campaign stunt from Emirates.

Now there wake up because all those Gulf airline they fly to smaller airports like Brussels.
Brussels has won a lot of connection with those three airlines.
Hasta la victoria siempre.
