Do you have any idea what's going to happen with the space that was recently freed up with the demolishing of the old former Sabena Technics buildings next to the current DHL building?Atlantis wrote: At this moment no plans for renovation. I hope they reserve it for a possible future contact gate expansion...teach wrote:Do you have any idea what's going to happen with the space that was recently freed up with the demolishing of the old former Sabena Technics buildings next to the current DHL building?

Dear Teach,
Yes, they will make a parking space on it.
Re: BRU infrastructure: future
Thanks for the info! Will it simply be a parking lot, or will the location be used for another parking tower?Atlantis wrote:Dear Teach,

Re: BRU infrastructure: future
Dear Teach,
Not a parking tower. For the moment it will be only a parking lot. For the moment there is no intention for a parking tower, at least not there.
That lot will be filled in for an other business purpose later

So are there any plans for additional parking facilities somewhere else? Since last year, parking facilities are at maximum capacity during peak periods.Atlantis wrote:Not a parking tower. Wasn't Front Park 3 built with extension in mind? I seem to remember reading when it was built that it could easily be expanded (by another 2000 spaces IIRC).
Re: BRU infrastructure: future
The parking facilities are really in very bad shape this is not the standard of an international airport!!!!!!
Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: BRU infrastructure: future
Which one do you mean? I think you overreact a little bit by call it in general "parking facilities".lumumba wrote:The parking facilities are really in very bad shape this is not the standard of an international airport!!!!!!
The thing that can be better or re-constructed is the asphalt who is becoming in a bad shape.

And very dark the lights don't work well, the signs are not clear, elevators are dirty etc...Atlantis wrote:Which one do you mean? I don't remember de number of the parking I think it's the economic one...
But it's not the cheapest ....

Re: BRU infrastructure: future
About the lights you have a point.
Signs are clear in my opinion. If the elevators are dirty then the people who makes them dirty should think twice instead of making them dirty and think that an other person will clean each hour the elevators.

Re: BRU infrastructure: future
You're clearly talking about Front park 2. It's the oldest one. The other two (FP1 and FP3) are quite bit newer and much, much better. But FP2 is a bit of a mess, that is true. In addition to what you say (which is all true: it is dark, the signage could be much better, and the elevators are indeed dirty) I'd also like to add the parking spaces are quite narrow (clearly built in a time cars were smaller), and the biggest problem I have with the elevators is not that they're dirty (though they are) but that there aren't nearly enough of them. Three elevators for the entire tower just isn't enough. I can't remember how many times I've needed to go from say 5 to 7, and needed to take the whole elevator ride through 4, 3, 2, 1, 2 again, 5 again, 6 and then finally 7. And usually packed to the rafters. I've learned my lesson: if I don't have too much luggage, I take the stairs.lumumba wrote: And very dark the lights don't work well, the signs are not clear, elevators are dirty etc...

But as I said, FP1 and 3 are much better: clearer signage, better lighting, wider spaces, cleaner elevators and more of them: I believe they both have about 8 or 9 elevators.
The dirt he's talking about isn't so much the 'stuff thrown away by passengers' kind of dirt. It's more the 'this thing hasn't been properly cleaned in years' kind of dirt. Especially the doors are quite disgusting: the parts that can't easliy be reached (parts between the platform doors and the elevator cage's doors) are apparently never cleaned, as they are very dirty indeed, and it's been the same dirt for years. It gives the elevators a very run-down look.Atlantis wrote:If the elevators are dirty then the people who makes them dirty should think twice instead of making them dirty and think that an other person will clean each hour the elevators.

Yes, there are plans for a huge new parking tower. But at this moment and in this stage of the plans, nothing can be said more about it as too many parties are involved in this.

Early this morning, Autogrill self-service restaurant Belgorama opened its doors in Pier A.

Re: BRU infrastructure: future
You must be referring to Front Park 2, indeed a disgrace to any airport or public facility whatsoever. Nothing can actually be done about it but demolishing and replacing it with a new one, but it has a lot of capacity and there are several other buildings built upon the structure of FP2 they'd need to find a replacement for.lumumba wrote:And very dark the lights don't work well, the signs are not clear, elevators are dirty etc...Atlantis wrote:Which one do you mean? I'd say the airport first have to open a new parking tower before replacing this one with a new one.

In the meantime they could however spruce things up by updating the lighting and maybe renew the flooring of the ellevators at least. A good cleaning of the windows would do wonders also. And if they really would like to go all out on it; a lick of paint on the pillars and ceilings.

Indeed, the parkings 1+2+3 lack proper maintenance.
P2 is a shame.
The things you say can be easily done.
Same for the Arrival Curb; after 2 years (!!!) of works, it looks still awful.
First impression of Belgium....
Re: BRU infrastructure: future
The opening of the new 'Connector' building is foreseen for thursday 26/03.
Is there a press event foreseen? Anyone of Luchtzak attending?
Would be great to see some pics although it won't be completely ready yet...
Thx

Re: BRU infrastructure: future
A press event? Even de King will come for the official opening of the Connector. It will be a huge event.
All personel of Brussels Airport will even have their own opening of the Connector tomorrow.
Be sure that there will be a lot of press.
