Impressive, the Business class cabin takes up as much space as Eco & premium eco combined. Also, only 88 eco seats? Surprising to say the least. Will this be fleetwide, or only on planes for specific routes?

More information through the link below. As far as I know it will only be introduced on a part of the 787 fleet.
Will be introduced on FRA-NRT daily as from this month and to JFK in January.

Though ANA has 787's with even less seats than these of JAL. A part of their 30+ 788's have only 158 seats in a two class configuration, these are also used on intercontinental routes.

Jetairfly got its first 787 before Arkefly, but Arke will get its second one before Jetairfly. The second Boeing 787 for Arke will arrive at Schiphol on 12 December.

Air India secures B787 compensation from Boeing

Air India has received compensation from Boeing over claims related to performance issues with its fleet of B787-8s.

"For prolonged grounding of Dreamliners, Air India has received compensation from Boeing on mutually acceptable terms," Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Mahesh Sharma, told India's Economic Times.

Though the exact figure was not disclosed, reports in October had pointed to Boeing settling on USD24million - half what the airline had originally sought.

The claims range from costs incurred as a result of constant aircraft downtime, damage to reputation, as well as discrepancies in the jet's actual performance compared to that stated by the manufacturer.

American Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787 (N800AN) in Paine Field. It is currently flying to Dallas-Fort Worth.

Air India is always full of surprises. Its Dreamliner VT-ANI is flying again after a record 10 months on the ground. Meanwhile it was used as a source of spare parts for the other Dreamliners of the fleet, like earlier with a 777.

But if VT-ANI is flying again, another Air India 787 (VT-ANK) is now grounded at Birmingham since 10 days with engine problems. The reason for the delay in supplying a new thrust reverser could be the airline’s well known financial problems.

Royal Air Maroc will launch Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner service from Casablanca to New York JFK on Feb. 22. It took delivery of the aircraft in early January.

This is the first of two 787s that will be used on transatlantic services between Morocco and the US. The airline has five of the type on order.

Air Austral confirmed its order for 2 'Terrible Teens' (the early 787's that were rejected by their original customers). It was booked by Boeing early this year as an UFO order on their website and earlier this month it was said that Air Austral was behind the order, without the official confirmation of the airline.

And Boeing might be close to selling 8 more of these 'Terrible Teens'. According to unnamed sources, Ethiopian Airlines is close to ordering 8. ET has been looking for additional 787's for a long time already, but they have difficulties getting early delivery slots and leasing firms don't seem to satisfy them (or also for these ones, not enough available on short/mid term). So these stored 787's can be a fast and cheap solution. Yes they are over weight with reduced range etc. as result, but you don't need the most efficient ones for all operations. If you can buy them very cheap, they can be a good addition to the fleet for some airlines.

If true, about Ethiopian, this would be good news for Boeing. It will still take a long time before they all leave the US because they need so much rework (and Boeing has limited capacity for this rework), but it would be an improvement if they have fixed customers with low risk of cancellation (contrary to Transaero and Lion Air that were previously planning to buy some of these terrible teens).

Would it be so difficult for Boeing to fix them with the developments introduced in more recent frames to make them less overweight and longer range? OK, a lack of time could explain why they are reluctant, but fixing them would enable Boeing to sell them at the regular price. So, it's a balance between the amount of work needed and the additional money they can get by fixing them, and IMHO this balance should always be positive.

The problem is that the additional weight is not limited to a few parts, it's structural througout the whole aircraft, it's not that easy to fix that. But I assume they 'fix' as much as possible in a financially viable way (there is also no sense in putting lots of money in them, when airlines don't want to pay that much anymore for them, and even now the rework per aircraft takes quite a lot of months, it will take I believe at least another 2 year for them to get out of the door if they get sold). And these things only get more and more complicated when things get changed, these aircraft went under so much rework that they basicly need a unique maintenance plan for the course of their life.

And as I said, some airlines don't really need the best performance they can get out of these frames if they get a low purchase price. I'm sure Boeing had enough time by now to figure out the right balance between upgrading performance and selling them for a reasonable price in the current market.

Boeing parks two American Airlines 787s in desert as it waits on delayed seat delivery

Boeing is reluctantly storing two new 787 Dreamliners in the California desert as it waits for French seat maker Zodiac Aerospace to catch up with delivery of its high-end seats. Top-end Zodiac airline seats, like these, are packed with entertainment systems and machinery, which can contribute to delivery delays.

Seat shortages have been a recurring problem for Boeing's 787 production.

The two jets were set to be delivered to American Airlines late last year.

They do it! ANA will paint one of its new 787-9s (JA873A) like R2-D2 in Star Wars. This plane will fly to international destinations from this autumn. Amazing:

An interesting article in Flightglobal: the unit loss for the 787 is still 30 million dollars per plane in the first quarter of 2015, down from 34 million in the last quarter of 2014. The programme is still far from break-even! But Boeing still plans to reach break-even on a unit basis by the end of this year on the 787 programme.

The unit cost improvement in the first quarter could have been greater if not for supply chain problems. Zodiac Aerospace has fallen behind on deliveries of premium cabin seating. GE Aviation also discovered a quality problem with a component that delayed shipments of 29 GEnx engines.

United Airlines will cancel 10 787 orders and swap them to 10 777-300ERs for delivery beginning in 2016.
