How not to load a Boeing 727 F

Post by OO-SBZ »

Today we'll discuss the loading procedures of a Boeing 727 F and start with this 'don't' example...

Something went wrong while loading this 727 at MIA on February 29, 2004. Nobody was hurt, and the plane was righted about 15 minutes after this shot was taken.

In my opinion the load-master should look for an other job

That's probably why the DC3's had a tail wheel. The training of the people who had to load the AC's was't that good, so they constructed the aircraft that it couldn't fall! ;)

I've always wondered how they load an airplane. Can someone explain this please :?:
What counter-weight do they use  Fuel in the wings? Just guessing of course :)

Well every type has a loading manual, this works perfect if all the parcels are put in place accordingly. So the freightletters of all the parcels must be okayed by the loadmaster. The plane is then loaded. Normally the plane is loaded rear to front with the heaviest parcels going in to the front. Three haulers sometimes take extra counterweights in the nose to compensate weight in the back. Also these things are okayed by the loadmaster....

So this picture could be called loadmasters day off! :-)

I find it very strange how somebody could make a mistake like this? I've seen more pictures from other aircraft's, like B747's, what was loaded like this. I wonder that they don't notice it while they're loading.

On freighter planes, it's all about loading/unloading SEQUENCE.

Mostly, a/c with forward maindeck cargodoor (727, md11, dc8, tu204,...) will have the door position on the 2nd pallet position. When loading starts, cgo will be ldd on position 1. The most aft pllt, will be "parked" on position 3. The second aft pllt is loaded in pos 2. Now the aft pllt will be moved back. This means that at all time of loading there are 2 pllts in the fwd area as counterweight. As a additional meisure, the lower fwd hold can also be loaded.

Different sequences are applicable for different a/c type.

Hope this helps a bit
