Benidorm is a popular package holiday destination with elderly people of which you'll find plenty in the big Flemish towns like Ostend, or indeed Antwerp, so no surprise.
My mother does several trips to alicante per year too, for instance.
She used to go to Malaga, but it's too hot there, she says.
Tenerife would be a good idea too, but if I understand it, it's out of reach from Antwerp?

In the past, SN was invited at CRL and declined rather sharply.
Brussels Airlines is Brussels only.

Irony of your post: the reborn SN was founded and operated out of Antwerp. :D

I don't think that it' a missed opportunity.
JAF won't go far with one E190 based at ANR to operate leisure routes. It's an interesting concept, but while this way of working is JAF's strength, it's also their weakness: they can't expand their concept beyond the limits of holiday packages.

They don't have the cost base to be a LCC due to the spread of their bases and the way they operate, and they don't have the hub and network to become a network carrier. It must be frustrating to be JAF: you can excel but can't expand.

Also, they can't attack neither network carriers nor LCC's but both network carriers and LCC's can attack them.
It's a lonely world and IMO they're vulnerable.

I also question the economics of operating E190's on routes exceeding 2 hours. The Ejets have quite high CASM, requiring high yields to operate long routes. However, high yields and leisure destinations are a very seasonal combination.

The 3rd Embraer E190 will arrive in early April 2015, just in time to commence flights from ANR. The registration (OO-JE*) is not yet decided.
