It is a pitty not more nato members have chosen this plane over the "late" A400.
In the end of keeping endlessly waiting the RAF had to order the C17 and they sure do not regret it.
Also other commonwealth countries like Canada and Australia chose the C17 and they to are marveled.
In the NATO there is also the NATO-Hungarian fleet of 3 C17 planes which can be used by several NATO air forces like the Netherlands etc...
BTW in the issue of the Malayan shotdown B777 ,the RAAF transport aircraft is a C17.

The C-17 wasn't exactly on time, on spec or on budget either. In fact, for quite a long time it looked like it was going to be a failure, and MD was regularly threatened with early terminations of the project.

Those two planes don't have the same duties. The A400 will be able to take off and land on short and difficult runways. The C-17 is a faster transport plane, but need long and better runways.
