Re: New regional airline at Liège Airport?

Post by Flanker2 »

A regional by itself in LGG would be quite a challenge, unless they fly Q400's to Italy. A Q400 would still work financially while a RJ would not offer the CASM necessary to offer a competitive price and A320/B737 would be overkill and not really fall under the definition of regional airline.

I'm an optimist for new projects and despite quite the catchement area, it will be quite challenging to make this work.

Pagtour isn't happy with this:

http://www.pagtour.net//index.php?optio ... le&id=4676

In brief :

- downtown Liège is only 42 kms from Maastricht-Aachen and 89 kms from Charleroi, both well established airports

- looking for new airlines is OK, creating one itself isn't (writes Pagtour)

- an own passenger airline will increase competition between local airports, and thus reduce benefit for... LGG

Should you not open a waffle shop because there are already other waffle shops not too far ?
Common...

Yes, off course.

But what Pagtour says, is that if the airport opens an own waffle shop, it's possible that the actual waffle shops who now pay rent to the airport, may quit.

So LGG must make very sure that what it will earn with its own airline brings in more revenu then what Jetairfly and others now pay.

Aviation has nothing to see with waffles... comparing is not a good way to judge about a business opportunity.
Knowledge of Liege Airport and a former employee of Virgin Express seems quite light.
Unfortunately, Liege Airport already proved they lack of operational knowledge in aviation...

They have canceled (postponed) the meeting.
They also confirmed LGG would only be a facilitator, not an investor.

It's quite normal that the meeting has been cancelled: organizor Luc Partoune has to prepare himself for a court case for fraud:

The downgrading from "investor" to "facilitator" is probably because they had negative comments from their actual clients who didn't liked that their business partner was going to compete them.
