Unions at Swissport in Brussels call for a strike.
According to De Tijd, unions at Brussels airport handling company Swissport have called for a strike in protest to a planned outsourcing of their cabin cleaning activities; they want to keep that under the swissport umbrella to avoid further eroding the working conditions if the affected staff like has happened at Aviapartner, which also saw a strike over the same issue some months ago.

No firm dates for the actions have been set, but I remember swissport went on strike for several days in a row last year, causing considerable headache to all of their customers, so I hope a similar mess can be avoided for all involved.

If they'll strike I think FR will switch very quickly to aviapartner

Re: Unions at Swissport in Brussels call for a strike.
Thanks for the links, passenger.
Anybody more information about the claims of passengers (or luggage) being sent to the wrong destination?
Luggage, I can understand, but passengers???
Surely they must notice that themselves before it is too late???
As to switching to aviapartner: I fear that's no solution; they were on strike only a couple of months ago as well for several days in a row so it seems one just has to accept being caught up in disruptive strikes every so many months at BRU.

Which is not beneficiary for BRUs image.Inquirer wrote:As to switching to aviapartner: I fear that's no solution; they were on strike only a couple of months ago as well for several days in a row so it seems one just has to accept being caught up in disruptive strikes every so many months at BRU.
However, the outsourcing of cleaning activiites is just something which is commonplace around the world. Not to mention that the unions acknowledge that some may even benefit.Inquirer wrote:According to De Tijd, unions at Brussels airport handling company Swissport have called for a strike in protest to a planned outsourcing of their cabin cleaning activities; they want to keep that under the swissport umbrella to avoid further eroding the working conditions

Sorry, Aviapartner was not on strike.
Cleaning was, but they are not a part of Aviapartner anymore.
Cleaning is outsourced to Axxicom if I am right.

Yes, but in this case those cleaning activities are one of their core businesses instead of merely supportive activities.LJ wrote:However, the outsourcing of cleaning activiites is just something which is commonplace around the world. Re: Unions at Swissport in Brussels call for a strike.
I used to work for Swissport for 3 months and I am happy not to work any longer for them.
I call it "social dumping". Split shifts, temp contracts, no time to have lunch or break, etc.
To only benifit goes to the invest groups and shareholders

And to "benefit" the passengers who only want to pay peanuts for their flight.sn47031 wrote:To only benifit goes to the invest groups and shareholders
Re: Unions at Swissport in Brussels call for a strike.
aviapartner might be bankrupt in a few weeks... and JAF is looking to switch back to swissport.sean1982 wrote:If they'll strike I think FR will switch very quickly to aviapartner
sorry but split shifts is just something that is necessary at BRU with its peak and ghost town momentssn47031 wrote:I used to work for Swissport for 3 months and I am happy not to work any longer for them.

i do agree on the temp contracts and 50% + 25 of 50% annex every month
Re: Unions at Swissport in Brussels call for a strike.
Don't think it'll go that fast, but pretty sure in the bigger scheme of things and the way it is heading now, WFS will -finally- buy them out cheap and get the tender ramp handling at BRU, as they always wanted.cnc wrote:aviapartner might be bankrupt in a few weeks...
