Eight killed in Finland parachutist plane accident

Post by sn26567 »

A small passenger plane carrying parachuters fell to the ground near the Jamijarvi Airfield, southwest Finland, and caught fire on Sunday April 20, 2014 afternoon.

Investigators didn't know the cause of the accident but "apparently some parts fell off the plane before it crashed.

Police said the eight victims were found in the badly burned aircraft, a Comp Air 8 kit aircraft, popular among parachutists.

Police said all 11 people on board were accounted for and that the three survivors were being treated for minor injuries.

So what?
The fact that it can have 6 to 8 seats doesn't mean it cannot carry more people than that...

Same story for every aircraft...our B787 has 300 seats but is certified for 330...

@JAF737 : I see where you're getting at.... but in your 787 example the certified seating is 10% higher than the actual seating plan...but the difference on this CA8 is, depending on the source, from 6 to 11 (>80% increase) or 8 to 11 (>35% increase)...is this normal? You seem to be in the known, interested to hear your views on this pls..
Furthermore the CA8 is in several countries (e.g. USA - manufacturing country; Australia, New-Zealand) not certified for PJ activities...but in Chili, Finland it is approved..

To give you an idea of the size of the crashed aircraft : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42aTPEFG9vk

Another Comp Air aircraft crashed after tail stall - filmed from inside : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmTa2ogcgbo

and this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6tgZVoZc7g) spins deliberately with jumpers still inside....

What I mean is that this website is not an official document stating the max capacity of the aircraft.
I don't have the POH nor the insurance letter of that aircraft, but I really doubt that would have taken any risk with that.

Apart from that, I don't know any specific rule that would allow a certain %age of extra pax in any aircraft. It's all about certification from the authorities I guess.
