British Airways adds fish and chips to inflight menu

British Airways will this week serve traditional fish and chips on some short-haul flights.

Passengers on services between Heathrow and Athens, Larnaca, Istanbul, Sofia, St Petersburg and Kiev will be the first to taste the latest addition to the airline's menu.

If it proves popular, fish and chips will be extended onto more BA short-haul routes.



The meal is served in an environmentally friendly box and will come with vinegar, ketchup and tartare sauce.

FR has been serving french fries and chicken nuggets with ketchup and mayo for a while now. Very popular with passengers, no stench at all. A good move from BA, it's these small touches that adds to iTS cultural image!

You can buy frozen pre fried oven fries that give no stench at all and are very crunchy. It should be possible...

OK. I accept your points. However, I cannot imagine that I would not smell anything if a pax sitting next to me were eating fish&chips. Nevertheless, this is another contribution to unhealthy eating habits, to people getting fatter, so I would recommend those airlines serving food that makes people bigger to offer wider seats, e.g. moving from six-abreast on A320/B737 to five-abreast.

True! That's why travelling on FR, U2 or in B Light is good for you! You actually loose weight due to the dehydration!

But we're getting a bit of topic now!

- odour (if any)
- taste (if any)

I'm flying BRU-LHR and back end of next month. Guess they won't have introduced it on all routes by then. Not even sure if there's gonna be normal catering on such a short flight.

I'd like to add that from personal observation, it seems national carriers are again discovering their roots and are increasingly proud to fly their flag and to add some local flavour to their product.
Personally I like this new trend very much, because there's nothing more impersonal than flying one of those pan European airlines: call me nostalgic, but when I fly between 2 countries, I love to see accents and crew of (at least one of) those countries reflected on board. It makes the whole product feel so much more genuine, personal and real to me.

No BA doesn't serve hot snacks on such a short stretch

Fish and chips should be fried, not cooked in an oven or microwave. You would not get good fish and chips on a plane.

You will eat the most tastfully fish , cooked in a steam-oven.

A steam oven would make the best boiled potatoes as well, but it would make the worst fries as well! Same applies for fried fish.

Anyway, the best food I ever had on an airplane was on Christmas Eve on BA long haul: stuffed turkey with mashed potatoes! It was even better than the rare C class meals in ate.
