I believe TRN is the longest flight they operate with the Q400. Doesn't mean it is the perfect fit for every route of about the same distance.
Flanker2 wrote: Plus, I don't see the point of B.flex, you get a small amount of food and a drink.
Do you expect that much more on such a short flight after already spending time in the lounge? And I believe (though really not sure) Club Med pax get a different service, though I'm not sure if this applies to all flights. I believe they also get extra FF miles.
Flanker2 wrote: Also, despite being an expensive package, Italians on an expensive holiday would be insulted to be served a pizza buffet for dinner or crepes as merenda.
Pizza is considered the working man's dish, not something you would eat in a classy hotel restaurant, and even so it's eaten hot from the oven, not presented on a buffet, baked god knows how many hours before. The only place that is acceptable is at your local Pizza Hut
Tomato mozzarella.... probably any Italian's last choice of antipasto... a poor choice.
The holiday Inn at BRU serves better breakfast than the one shown.
Even the most expensive hotels in Italy offer these kind of dishes, at least if they have lots of international guests. Why? Simply because international visitors expect this from an Italian hotel. You might have noticed that his is about non-Italian people going on holiday overthere, not about Italians going on an expensive trip in their own country.
Flanker2 wrote: I think that this trip is way overpriced for what it offers and there is little class about it aside from the Club Med marketing that these girls were sold. If you book the hotel directly and fly there with Ryanair, you'd be spending the same holiday at less than half the price...more and more people are putting their own ski packages together.
You are probably correct, but do you think anyone cares at Club Med or SN as long as people are prepared to spend this money on this overpriced holiday? These are usually the kind of people that don't want to take care of all the organisation of taking care about a ticket, transfer to the airport, transfers at the destination, hotel reservation, etc. It's correct that more and more people put their own holiday together, but that's exactly why Club Med is moving itself upwards in the market, where there are still lots of people that don't care about the money they spend, as long as they don't have to take care about anything and can have a great holiday in a great hotel, even though that hotel might kill Italian gastronomy like its known by the Italians itself (to come back to this example).

I wouldn't be someone booking a holiday like this with Club Med, but there are lots of people that do want to this. You can say it's overpriced and far from actually luxurious as they try to market it, but you can't ignore the Club Med - SN partnership is a commercial success for SN (note I'm not saying financial success, that's impossible to conclude from what we know as outsiders). SN transports about 50 000 passengers for Club Med and the new Fly & Ski offer performs above expectations because more and more people book this kind of holidays again.

I don't disagree that it's fine as long as it works for them.
I mean as long as there are people who pay high prices for a low-cost trip, just because it's classy on the brochure. I think that people are losing sight of what is good stuff and what looks good but is actually porcheria, like they say in Italy. I'm disappointed in Club Med though, this doesn't live up to their reputation.

I can't but note how your remarks always come down to one and the same point, Flanker2: "why would anybody pay more than he'd absolutely have to?", often followed by an example of a cheaper and more or less similar offer from a competitor, mostly ryanair.

The thing you fail to grasp is that not everybody is interested in paying the absolute lowest possible price; other things often come into play as well: brand image, extra comfort, peace of mind... you name it.

I am sure most people who fill up their car at a Q8 petrol station for instance by now know very well its much more expensive than at the DATS or the Lukoil, yet that doesn't prevent them from still going to Q8, because they trust them to deliver a quality fuel while they can also to buy a bite or a drink in their onsite shop and collect a few extra points for whatever they may be saving them up for.
And yes, one can buy those towels at a fraction of the cost at HEMA, while that snack or the can of coke from a Q8 shop is way overpriced too, but that's not what this is about: it's just fun to do and very convenient to have it all in one and certain people don't really care that much about the modest extra cost they have to endure because of it.

Please, don't get me wrong: if you happen to find your joy of life in knowing you aren't paying a cent too much, then that's perfectly fine and I am sure you will succeed in Always filling up your car at the cheapest gas station while having a can of coke in your car readily available in case you are thirsty with no problem whatsoever and you can enjoy the laugh at all those who stop at Q8 or the others: other people like to live without constantly having to carefully plan every detail of their daily life as if they are counting their money all the time and enjoy the feeling they are pampering themselves a fair bit more if and when they feel like it, and they are willing to spend some more money on that then.

What's wrong with either attitude, if I may ask?
From your comments it seems like everybody not driving a Dacia, not doing his shopping at ALDI or not always opting for the cheapest possible flight is considered an outright idiot by you.
Allow me to say that you are missing out on a lot of extra comfort, fun and peace of mind in your life all for the sake of saving a couple of bucks which at the end you won't take with you anyway, you know?

But what exactly is their reputation? Their customer satisfaction has been going upwards continuously over the past two years, as is their Belgian customer base. As long as this goes on, there is no reason for Club Med to start offering even more luxery for the same price.
And also keep in mind that you idea of a luxurious holiday and what would be a correct price for it, might not be the same as the average idea of the Belgian customer.

Why not just be happy. Let's be fair here:

> Ryanair started in BRU in february
> Brussels airlines seems to be doing better than before
> Vueling is supposed to start from BRU quite soon
> JAF is healthy
> VLM brand will be reintroduced
> ...

if anything, we should be happy!

Aviation is booming in Belgium. That could indeed be reason for celebration, who can argue with that?

Now we are in the mood, Brussels Airport won the Routes Europe Award in the category of airports with 4-20 million passengers last night. Always a welcome award as these are chosen by airline network planning/developing teams.
Athens and Prague where Higly Commended in the category of BRU. In the 20mil+ category Copenhagen was the winner ahead of Schiphol and Frankfurt
City Airport Bremen was the winner of under 4 million and the overall winner

It are often the same airports performing well in these awards: ATH, AMS, BRU, CPH and FRA are among the European airports which I remember that are almost always either the winner or highly commended in their category (or at least nominated in the global awards iso the regional ones).

27.1% of the passengers transfering on the SN network is not bad indeed. But I wonder did they include SN codeshare flights (so SN code, but opd by a partner such as United or Air Canada or Lufthansa)? I believe not, they don't seem to be seen as transfer pax in this press release (as they fly only one sector on SN).

It's not bad but what does it mean?
Any airline's bread and butter is O&D, connections are lower yield unless you are feeding to/from niches.
SN could reach far better results if they had a regional network to tap into.

Also, it's no surprise that SN has to tap into the connecting market to fill their A330's.
After all, Brussels is the capital of Europe, but not yet the capital of Africa...

Tell that to KLM...

Certain carriers simply have a very small home market (and in case of SN/BRU encroached by all major European hubs) and in that case you can't survive solely on your home market if you are a network carrier like SN.

I remember a statement of Willie Walsh (ceo of International Airlines Group - BA/IB): "The biggest problem of Brussels Airlines is their small home market and the proximity of all major hubs in Europe, compared to Brussels, we are extremely lucky with London as home market". He might be the ceo of a competitor, he is 100% correct.

But regarding what's the most important transfer or OD. It depends, in case of SN they have to make sure they have a strong OD base for their European network, but just like most network carriers the long haul network is fine when feeding from their whole network. Of course that mostly brings in lower yields as OD, but when you don't have the market, you have to source your passengers from somewhere. SN's OD market is not even large enough to fill A319's to many of their African destinations with the same frequency.
In addition, intra-European transfers can be very lucrative as well when you focus at business passengers (or high-yield tourists like the Scandinavia-Southern Europe market, though that market is under huge pressure with Norwegian growing at high speed and with SAS trying to counter that attack).
