The helicopter was on its way for an intervention and had a doctor, a nurse and the pilot on board. Location of the accident was around the city of Nieuwsmunster.

Aircraft involved is probably Ecureuil AS 355-F1 OO-HSB.

Edit:
Only the pilot suffered minor injuries. The aircraft has been identified as "an Ecureuil", but exact reg is not known yet. The pilot had to make an emergency landing after the helicopter lost fuel and oil. It landed safely but then slipped on the snowy underground and slid into a creek. The helicopter is heavyli damaged, possibly beyond repair. (source: VRT)

The heli involved in the crash is registered with OO-HSB.

During an emergency landing the heli skid and crashed into a nearby hole. During the flight the heli seemed to lose some fuel or oil and the pilot decided to make an emergency landing in a field. It was during this landing that the heli crashed. Fortunately nobody was serious injured in this incident, only the pilot suffered some minor injuries. No patient was on board during this incident.

Some details:

Update:

OO-HSB has been completely damaged during the crash (heli turned over, tail broke off).

It seems that the rotor hit the ground and this resulted in the severe crash. The heli did make a emergency landing because of loss of power in it's engines.

The official press release concerning the incident:

On november 23, 2008 the "MUG-Heli" received a call arround 15h53 (CET) for a urgent incident in the Sun Parks bungalowpark in Vlissegem. The heli was called as backup for the MUG team from Blankenberge who were allready on the scene. At 15h57 the MUG-heli was airborne and on his way to the emergency in Vlissegem.

Arround 16h00, above the town of Nieuwmunster the heli had troubles with a technical failure in one of the jetegines. Due this failure it was necessary to make an emergency landing. During this emergency landing the heli must be landed as a regular airplane. The emergency landing was completed succesfully by the pilot in a open fiels in the Bruggestraat at Nieuwmunster. During the landing the heli glided for some distance through the field before the right ski fell into a ditch. The heli was severly damaged during this incident.

Aboard of the heli were a pilot, a medic and a ER doctor, no patient was aboard. Everyone could leave the wreck on his own, the pilot secured the wreck wile the medical team contacted the "HC 100" (call center).

Everyone was transported to the AZ St Jan hospital in Bruges were they received a checkup, everyone could leave the hospital during the evening.

The MUG Heli is active from 1986 and is operated by the Institute for Medical Emergencies in Bruges. During those years the MUG Heli responded to more than 11.000 calls. It works closely with the AZ St Jan Hospital in Bruges where the heli is located.

Leaving from it's base in Bruges the MUG heli can respond in less then 15 minutes to whole West-Flanders, a big part of East-Flanders and also Zeeland in The Nederlands. HC 100 is responsible to handle the requests for the heli and calls them when needed. For some parts of the country the MUG heli does respond as the primary MUG team (a MUG team is a Mobile Urgence Group which is generally staffed with a doctor and a medic (paramedic) to support the ambulance crew during lifethreatning incidents). For other parts the MUG heli acts as a secondary MUG team or when additional medical support is needed. The MUG heli responds to 700 calls each year.

The management of the Institute for Medical Emergencies in Bruges as decided to continue the project and will see in the next couple of days which solution is possible to continue the service.

Isn't it ironic ? VRT making a subject on the crash of a Heli Service Belgium helicopter... It's the same company VRT uses to cover live sport events and shoot other stuff where aerial shots are needed.

Since 24 Dec 2008, Heli Service Belgium is flying again as MUG-heli: with OO-HSK, an Ecureuil AS 355 F2.

They're expecting a new heli by the end of February 2009.

OO-HSN, another medical heli from the same company, had a technical problem whilst AOG. It happened in the city of Torhout on 9th Jan 2014, just after OO-HSN had delivered an epilepsy patient to a local hospital. Engine failure, unable to start. The heli then was pushed to the local fire brigade for safe storage:

indeed - but I didn't say it crashed: I just posted this ground incident from 2014 as reply in a topic about a crash from this heli's precessor in 2008.
