Re: 2013 Charleroi airport (CRL/EBCI) latest news
Part translation of the Ryanair press release :
Ryanair contradicts recent rumors from the Belgian government and / or Brussels Airlines regarding a possible move its operations to Zaventem airport in case of disappearance of Brussels Airlines caused by its catastrophic losses.
Ryanair continues to grow traffic and the number of jobs in Charleroi, and has no intention to move its operations at the airport in Zaventem, even if Brussels Airlines, an airline operated by Lufthansa actually ceases its operations.
Stephen McNamara, Ryanair , said:
In any event, the problems of Brussels Airlines are - by far - much more serious than wage costs or operating costs in Zaventem . Our view is: Brussels Airlines is just another high price, high cost airline, at a time when most passengers expect low rates and efficient service such as that provided by Ryanair at Brussels South Charleroi. "

Re: 2013 Charleroi airport (CRL/EBCI) latest news
Flights do not seem bookable after 29/3/2014. So persumably CRL-LIS is to be considered as stopped,no?Ryanair cancela Lisboa – Charleroi no verão 2014 ?
It is just a question..
After all this would make sense after opening of BRU-LIS.

It does make sense but it's not a good news for my wallet... It will be cheaper again to fly from germany -> our economy is losing.

The first big event of FR in our region, closure of MST base..
So we know where the plane for BRU will come from...
CRL will see a little loss off connections I guess as they need promote the BRU base...

That is some very bad collateral dammage... Sad thing !
No one is happy of this situation.
Now if MST is losing half of its trafic too, it makes me think that the whole story of plane stock is just a lame excuse.
It looks that the market is saturated in the region.

Between 500.000 and 900.000 pax lost. It's about -16% in the worse case scenario. it isn't so little is it ?CRL will see a little loss off connections I guess as they need promote the BRU base...

Pegasus at CRL : an interview of Ms Güliz Oztürk, commercial manager (in French) :
http://www.lalibre.be/economie/actualit ... aedaab2e68
Extract :
We will first see how the flights (from CRL) will operate. If requested, we will of course consider offering new destinations from Belgium. We consider ourselves primarily as a regional company for Europe, the Middle East, Russia and the Caucasus. From Charleroi airport, Pegasus offer 21 Turkish destinations and 12 international destinations, including Doha, Dubai, Beirut, northern Cyprus or Tehran, via our hub of Istanbul ( Sabiha Gökçen, the second airport of the city).

Re: 2013 Charleroi airport (CRL/EBCI) latest news
6,786 million passengers in 2013: BSCA announces 4% increase:
Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA) announced today its 2013 passenger stats. The airport welcomed 6,786.979 million passengers which is an increase of 4% compared to the 6,5 million passengers registered in 2012. The increase is slightly higher than the airport management’s expectations given the difficult economic circumstances. Passenger loyalty to the airlines operating at BSCA and the satisfaction of all airport users are pointed out as major reasons to this repeated increase in passenger numbers. During 2013, 10 new destinations were added to the airport’s routes offer, several routes saw the flight frequency increase and the shopping facilities in the airport terminal were increased significantly. The 2014 forecast is much less optimistic. The airport expects a decrease in passenger numbers due to the start of operations at the other Brussels airport by Ryanair. The airport management will continue its efforts to extend the offer and welcomes the already announced new routes for 2014: Prague operated by Jetairfly as of April 4th, Skopje operated by Wizzair as of April 16th and the routes operated by newcomers Pegasus Airlines, flying daily to Istanbul as of March 30th, and Thomas cook flying to Antalya as of June 28th. By continuous improvement of its customer service, BSCA intends to confirm its position as one of the world’s best Low Cost Airports in 2014 and beyond.
