Ryanair at Brussels Airport

Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
FR allready operates between 06.30 and 23.00 in CRL so I dont see why that should be a problem. All destinations they promise from BRU if you take off between 06 and 07 you will be at destination between 08 and 09, well in time to stary a days work and fly back in the evening to land in BRU between 22 and 23.
Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
The declined slots are the return flights from Barcelone, Malaga and Valencia as they severely encroach the night curfew at BRU. The late return flight from Lisbon was initially affected to, but by moving its operating times slightly forward, that problem could be solved, but for the other 3 flights the slot coordinator in BRU could not find an alternative so those flights can not be accomodated.

Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
I'm not necessary implying that it will pose a problem to RYR, I'm simply sharing what I read elsewhere.
Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
they could operate flights departing BRU around 21;00 - 22:00 to TLV and IST or (SAW) for instance.. arrival 06:30..
Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
i do hope FR makes the airport less of a ghost town in between peak hours
Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
at the risk of turning it into a ghost town during peak hours
Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
There is no open skies agreement between the EU and Turkey, so Ryanair can"t fly between BRU and IST/SAW.b720 wrote:they could operate flights departing BRU around 21;00 - 22:00 to IST or (SAW) for instance.. arrival 06:30..
Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
BRU seems to be saturated at peak hours indeed and as good as empty at other times when all the planes based there are gone, but if you want to make good use of your planes based at the airport, you probably have to keep them bussy a whole day, so getting slots rejected at the end of the day isn't good news...
I wonder how they'll solve that: drop a few frequencies, pull a route from the schedule, add another plane to operate the same number of flights, or just start the day even earlier (and is this even possible concerning all the other slots that go with this throughout the day)?
Maybe you just can't cram as many rotations into BRU's open slots as they had thought, given the nature of the waves in BRU?

Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
An alternative would be to have the outbound flights in the morning from charleroi, followed by inbound to BRU & outbound from bru and then followed by inbound to charleroi. That way you make use of the aircraft whole day and concentrate the first outbound and last inbound flights at EBCI where it hasn't been a problem until now.
Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
my guess is that they will change the combination of the routes each aircraft flies a bit and play with the block times. Mixing bases/routes is not really FR's style.
Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
Does anybody know how it works if you don't make a certain slot?
I remember reports of British AW for instance having to fly empty planes just to keep a certain slot at LHR, so I can imagine that if you miss out on a certain slot all too often, you simply loose the right to using it?
If ryanair is going to rework their flighttimes to squeeze those late returns into the slots available earlier in the evening, aren't they exposing themselves to this risk in case they are too optimistic?
And alternatively, changing the combination of flights each plane does, doesn't that mean changing also (some of) the schedules of other flights performed by those planes which are currently not affected, with the risk of seeing those new slots being rejected too then, as they may end up in another peak period?
Seems to me like they have caused themselves a bit of an operational headache by not asking for slots before announcing the flights, like other airlines do it???

Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
Ryanair managed to get one single slot between 2300 and 0600 and is on a waiting list for three other ones (there is a limit of 16000 night flights per year at BRU).

Christof Franz (LH) on SN, in "La Libre" today (extracts) :

Brussels Airlines should not be afraid of the arrival of Ryanair in Zaventem . We will help to take the steps to successfully face this new challenge.
Like all companies , Brussels Airlines must take action and improve the level of quality of services . It should also reduce prices and reduce operational costs .
You are 45% shareholders of Brussels Airlines and you had an option to buy the entire capital of the company last year. You have not. Why ?
It was a strategic decision that we have taken given the financial situation of the company. But we are committed to continue supporting Brussels Airlines. We have seen great progress last year, and I really think that Brussels Airlines is on track . But the environment is difficult, and it remains a challenge for the company to progress next year.
When will you fully buy Brussels Airlines?
There is no decision yet . This is not on the agenda.

It's possible, but not as usual on the first page, where there is only CRL.cirrus wrote:Hello,

You have to click on a promotional fare (for instance the first one is, at the moment, Ancone 16.99) and then, next page, on the left, you can choose BRU instead of CRL.
(I have just booked a FCO day return, early april, for 40,78 euros - SN demands 411 euros for same. Yes, I know, it's not the same product, but is it ten times better, in line with the price ?).
The very least SN must do is to stop demanding outrageous prices for the day return trips.

And for the one-way ticket too, they are way too expensive!

Re: Ryanair at Brussels Airport
Indeed, they even charge high one way fares on destination where the competition (not necessarily LCCs) offer low OW fares. For example, on JAN, BRU MAD OW : SN 279 euros, IB 119 euros (+15 euros for one piece of hold luggage). Just one more example of mismanagement !
