Re: Brussels Airlines : pilots strike looming
I totally agree that pilot want to protect their garden but striking is the best way to loose the trust of the clients and the trust of Lufthansa in a critical period when we just anouced that Vueling and Ryanair will open a base in BRU. The pilot will might loose their job and the one of their colleagues in the other department witch have a lower salary and didn't asked anything, there is other way to solve those problem than those bestial action in period of Christmas.
Re: Brussels Airlines : pilots strike looming
so you would just swallow anything and accept that agreements are not respected because you are under a little pressure?
Re: Brussels Airlines : pilots strike looming
Of course no, well I don't know really well the reason of the strike and I'm not a pilot of SN so I don't want to take any position about it. But I just find the pilot action a little bit brutal. The strike is for me the ultimate action to be heard by your employer. But abuse of the strike and doing strike after strike for a yes or a no will not help at all.

No worries, they will come back on earth one day...
But probably not the earth they are looking for.
Sad spirit.

Re: Brussels Airlines : pilots strike looming
SN's top management have their work cut out for themselves.
The way things are presenting themselves now, the airline is doomed, a few days of hard-earned holidays at the cost of the shareholders wouldn't be that bad.
After all, the pilots did their job right so far, with a great safety record, despite having to deal with a lot of *%£+* and putting their own life on the line.
It comes at the cost of other employees, but just because those accept to suffer in silence, it doesn't mean that pilots can't have a party of their own. Pilots suffer a lot from the lifestyle and put their own life on the line, on top of accepting the responsibility for their passengers.
Let's be honest with ourselves, Ryanair is right. SN's problems aren't Vueling, Ryanair or CRL, it's themselves. How many times have members here asked the question why SN doesn't expand faster in Africa and elsewhere? That passive attitude is what is taking them down... all the pilots' and others' hard sacrifices seem to be in vain.
Gustin's team went after glamour... New York! Washington! A line-up of A320's. La classe.
How much of that glamour will we see left when they file for insolvency?

Having entirely lost trust in the negotiators of SN, the unions are now negotiating at the highest level, ie "with the shareholder" (Lufthansa ?). An agreement is expected early next week. In the meantime, no strike is planned.

Re: Brussels Airlines : pilots strike looming
I often wonder, if all you forum-managers believe to be so skilled in managing an airline, why arent you? I propose the name Luchtzak Lines, you can pay the pilots peanuts
or better, have them pay you for being allowed to work... sounds great!
Re: Brussels Airlines : pilots strike looming
I've always spoken from an employees point of view, but if you're getting angry because people dont sympathise with your points of view, you might want to work on your own managing skills as well!
Re: Brussels Airlines : pilots strike looming
1. the "lost of confidence" is mutual. Management cannot trust die hards who have, voluntary, caused a massive loss with their strike. By the way, I've been told that antipathy towards the pilots is quite general withing the company nowadays.airazurxtror wrote: http://www.lalibre.be/economie/actualit ... 5ef7d34c91

2. "Les syndicats de Brussels Airlines mènent des négociations au plus haut niveau, à savoir avec l'actionnaire", the article states. I always thought that there were several share holders, but anyway: do the unions really think that the members of the board will have a different view then the executive directors they've appointed? Or that they will force them to take other decisions? The only thing that Davignon wll probably do (and he's good in it), is to explain the annual account to them.
3. The article in La Libre proofs that there is just one problem left: union delegates that are looking for a way to land without loosing their face too much.

Re: Brussels Airlines : pilots strike looming
A few days ago, Davignon said SN is not on the edge of bankruptcy but he requests the government to honor his promises about offering 16mEuros.
Was he lying and cash flow is a problem? Or he wants to impress LH with a 16mEuros surplus for 2013.
Funny how to LH and the press they will say everything is fine, while to employees the sky is falling.
Maybe a bit of honesty wouldn't hurt, for once.
Edit: the 16m euros will come as state funding for firemen, security, etc.. at BRU airport.
Will ryanair get the same advantages, then?

I think it's more a figure de style/stijlfiguur. Same with the sentence "the customer is our priority" for example.Passenger wrote: 2. According to La Libre Belgique (http://www.lalibre.be/economie/actualit ... 5ef7d3809d) this will only be for Belgian companies. 20 millions are involved, of which 15 will be indirectly for Brussels Airlines.FlightMate wrote: Edit: the 16m euros will come as state funding for firemen, security, etc.. at BRU airport.

Brussels Airport will receive this enveloppe, and this way they won't have to bill SN, JAF & HQ for firemen, security, etc. Some training costs will also be funded.

Brussels Airport will not bill SN, JAF et HQ for firemen and security, but the other companies will have to pay same ? Very strange - one cannot wait for the happy comments of those other airlines, not to mention the comments of the European Commission !hvs89 wrote: Brussels Airport will receive this enveloppe, and this way they won't have to bill SN, JAF & HQ for firemen, security, etc.
In "La Libre" yesterday, Davignon seemed pretty desperate with SN need for money before the end of this year ...

Yes, but the question is why before the end of the year?
Just so the accounting look better?
I don't think they have a deadline for a loan or something...
