Last rumour I heard is that EK is planning to continue onto BOS from BRU

According to this post
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=51033&start=80#p289557
these are the slots they have asked for:
STA: 1205
STD: 1450
EK183/184
so no onward flights (so far).

Personally, I think our country should revoke or carefully study these kind of onward flight rights in order to facilitate hub building at BRU, something which is increasingly difficult if you allow airlines from the other end of the world to come and cherry pick from the most lucrative longhaul routes, but that's just my opinion, of course.

That's correct Inquirer, but when your home carrier is not able to build up their long haul routes or only with one long haul plane a year then others will do it in their place. When there is a demand, when the market is ready they can't wait till the home carrier is able to start.

I agree, protectionism can't last for an eternity.

I reckon you also oppose 9W flying from BRU to the US and Canada? Anyway, there is no chance the Belgium can or will prevent EK flying BRU-BOS. There is an Open Skies policy between the US and Belgium and AFAIK the UAE - Belgium bilateral allows this as well. Furthermore, the Belgium government will not risk its relationship with UAE over such an issue as air traffic rights.

However, I think the chances of a BRU-BOS are very slim. First, EK can serve BOS nonstop from Dubai. Second, if they would make a stop I would say MXP will be the airport as they are alrady using this airport on their way to the US. The only reason why EK would make a stop at BRU is if they view BRU and BOS not as large enough to sustain a nonstop service alone.

EK is not just able to serve BOS nonstop, they've already announced the destination, starting in March:

I think if they go transatlantic from BRU it will be to JFK.

EK already has double daily DXB-JFK with A380 aircraft and since a few weeks also daily DXB-MXP-JFK, so I don't think they'll add another connection to JFK through a European airport. But EK is in fact looking at several North and South American routes like Rio, Seattle, ... through European airports like MAD, LIS, CPH,... (in addition to their non-stop flights). So another add-on from BRU is always possible, but I don't think it will be JFK.

Does anyone have some more information about it ? Emirates has already announced Oslo as new destination from september, so if it was due to be opened in august to Brussels, it should already have been announced, shouldn't it ? :|

It was later said by someone from Emirates (Benelux I believe) that they wouldn't launch the route in August and the slots were returned.
