I suppose these are thanks to lucrative touroperator contracts, keeping capacity up during the summer months having less business demand on several other European destinations.
Atlantis wrote: Also Athens is again in the schedule.
Though only 3 weekly, so this seems to be leisure focussed as well. Though you should see these 3 in addition to the Aegean flights of course.
Atlantis wrote: Budapest will get better hours to connect them better with BRU.
Not only BUD, many routes will see slight changes in their shedule to fit better in the transfer network/better suit the business pax. But BUD is the one seeing the biggest changes indeed.
Atlantis wrote: Tel Aviv will receive 3 extra flights. Extra morning flights.
This is a very nice addition, this brings the total amount of flights to 11/week (Sunday already had a second daily flight).

The article seems to be almost the same as the official press release of SN:
viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51428

Someone which wants to search for the full new shedules (TLV, BUD and the new/returning destinations)? xp

Wow that's nice and quite unexpected, no? Never thought Charlotte would be the next US-destination for Brussels Airport...!

That's unexpected to me as well, especially with US wanting to merge with AA and leaving Star. Nice addition anyway.

I think Charlotte is a quite big US hub, maybe a start of their new strategy after the AA merge?

Codeshare agreements are also on their way.

Don't forget that this can be seen as a feeder flight for SN to Africa. So this is very good news.
I hope that SN's next A330 is still on the table and can be deployed on the African market.

Apparently, it will be only a summer destination. Flights to be discontinued on 1 Sep 2014 out of CLT, 2 Sep out of BRU.

US Airways will also add new service from Charlotte to Barcelona, Lisbon and Manchester during next summer.

I don't see a big intercontinental role for Charlotte after the merger because of the proximity of other hubs, except of course for the bigger OD routes (which are often seasonaly served out of Charlotte) and maybe some hub to hub routes.

Charlotte was in 2012 the 23rd busiest airport by passenger traffic in the world !!
Bad source : Wikipedia
But I guess it's good news for BRU and for SN

And anyway, the merger with AA is far from complete: still many hurdles with the US Dept of Justice, which wants to block it. In the meantime, US Airways acts independently.

It's a US domestic hub, that's why, it doesn't say anything about the amount of international traffic, it's simply a very important domestic hub for US and their secondary intercontinental hub. Good way of showing the difference between bussy airport and bussy international hubs: both Dallas and Denver are bussier airports than JFK. While BRU is somewhere between 25th and 35th in the world when talking about international traffic (with JFK and MIA the only US airports being in the top-30 of bussiest airports in the world based on international traffic).

True indeed, but in addition, based on the period they'll operate it, I doubt their number one reason for this route is transfers through BRU (through Charlotte maybe) and I don't think this route is going to live through a merger with AA (altough the new AA would lack a NYC connection, so who knows).

Nevertheless, it is a nice additional flight, even it is seasonal. Maybe it will continue in 2015 if flights were successful.
