Jetair passengers to the Emirates will be transferred on the Etihad flights to Abu Dhabi.

Newcastle Airport announces daily flights to Brussels

bmi will operate the direct link from Newcastle International Airport to Brussels International with a 49-seater Embraer Regional Jet 145.

The flights are scheduled to begin on March 3, 2014 and will take around 75 minutes and cost from £69.99 per person, including taxes. bmi regional offers a full in-flight service including at-seat meals and full bar selection, in addition to 20kg of checked baggage per person and 30-minute check-in.

Nice addition for Brussels, after losing some of the regional UK routes. SN didn't have the right sized aircraft to maintain a high frequency, bmi (currently bmi regional, but will be rebranded to simply bmi) does have the right aircraft for it, though 3 daily is more attractive, 2 daily is a good start for a winter season.

Meanwhile they are leaving the BRU-EDI market, leaving this route to SN.

BMI have a brilliant service. When we flew on LH we could only have one checked in bag per person, this is not the case with BMI, as long as you're within the weight range a person can check in two bags, which is much better. I missed flying BMI this year!

The irony is that SN had the right size of plane when the route was operated by bmi on behalf of SN with an ERJ145. The Avro was too big, and when the agreement between SN and bmi expired, SN introduced the Q400 which evidently was also too big.

Now the interesting part: It is understood that the flight will initially operate with an interline partnership with Brussels Airlines that will allow through ticketing, but bmi regional is believed to be open to the introduction of a full codeshare arrangement with the Belgian carrier that could see its ‘SN’ code return to the Newcastle departure board in the future.

I think SN really misses their Newcastle connection in their UK-offer (having some interesting business and transfer passengers on that route before). Bmi seems to be using that position as they have the right aircraft and SN doesn't.

Tristar Air's due to resume twice weekly Cairo - Brussels cargo ops

Tristar Air (TSY, Cairo Int'l) is to resume operations following the return of its sole aircraft, an A300B4(F), SU-BMZ (c/n 129), from a C Check at Cairo Int'l with Egyptair Maintenance. Reliable sources in the Egyptian capital state that the cargo specialist's first route will be a twice weekly Cairo to Brussels National service.



Established in 1998, Tristar offers both ACMI and ad-hoc charter services. It is owned by the Messeh family with Sobhy Abd El Messeh holding a 98% controlling stake and Sabry Botros Messeh and Fortunee Botros Messeh each holding a token 1%.

Looks like a familiar schedule to me?

Are they hoping for a codeshare with Brussels (like they had before on the route), because with this schedule they fit in very nicely with the other UK arrivals, I must say.

Definitely something to keep an eye on, because without it, I can't use the service due to contractual obligations.

Ethiopian Airlines plans to introduce Boeing 787 operations on limited-time basis only on Addis Ababa – Paris CDG – Brussels route, as per 22NOV13 GDS timetable/inventory display.

The 787 is to operate this route from 27JAN14 to 15FEB14 (ADD departure, Europe until 16FEB14), instead of 767.

DHL Express boosts West African operations with a B757F, two ATR72Fs

DHL Aviation (South Africa) (DHV, Lanseria) has added three aircraft to their West African operations – a B757-200(F) and two ATR 72-200(F)s wet-leased from Farnair Switzerland (FAT, Basle/Mulhouse/Freiburg). The two ATR72s, each with a capacity of 7 tonnes, will connect countries including Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali and Mauritania while the B757 freighter will be used to operate a new weekly Dakar to Brussels National service offering a capacity of over 25 tons. The express operator, which already has a hub and gateway in Lagos, Nigeria, also opened a new airside facility in Dakar, Senegal, in early November to handle transit volumes. The facility will handle freight destined for Senegal and transit material destined for the region.

You're right: next to the weekly flight of Belle Air, there was (and there is still) one weekly flight of Jetairfly.
