just for the record, SQ7895 was only re-routed to NBO due to runway works on 25R and the payload restrictions it had as a consequence. Normal routing is BRU-JNB-SIN.

Tristar Air has indeed resumed operations using its previously parked A300B4-203(F), SU-BMZ (c/n 129). According to Skyliner Aviation, the cargo operator's maiden flight was Cairo Int'l - Brussels National - Manston - Kuwait on November 17.

The diabolo rail connection is a failure. The 678 million euro investment is not profitable at all. There are not enough airport users coming from Antwerp by rail, and the number of travellers coming from Leuven is going down.
Only 19% of Brussels Airport users come by train, far too little to make the investment profitable. There are two main reasons: the 4.40 euro diabolo fee coming in addition to the regular ticket price, and the poor rail service (too many delays).
Many travellers do not pay the diabolo surcharge due to the lack of control, according to several sources.

A lot of people working at Brucargo were asking for a trainstation at Brucargo itself too, years ago. There were plans for such a construction: on groundlevel or under the ground. After some while they decided that it was too expensive to build also there a station. I understand in some way. But at Brucargo are working so many people coming out of the direction of Antwerp, Mechelen and between.

Anyone know why they isn't cargo service between Rwanda and Belgium ?? I know that Ehiopian did a Liege Bujumbura Kigali Addis Ababa in 2011, but flights ceased quickly.
Taxes at Kigali are high and airlines such as EmiratesSkycargo has dropped their service. But however it's quite strange to have no cargo service btw Belgium and Rwanda. Why not TNT or Avient, via Bujumbura.

As from May 1st, SV handling for cgo will be done by Swissport. Build-up plus turnaround, the full monty.

Don't know for the parking positions.. Do know that SV's plan is to take their MD11 freighters out of service, and start flying 747-8F on BRU as of june.. But timiing is relative when talking SV

The thought of bringing in the 747-8 is a rumour for more than a year now.
It's the same as KE. A lot off fuss about a lot off hot air. But at best it turns out to be a gentle breeze.
It would be nice to see those birds on tarmac though.
For AP it will bring the loss of about one third of the turnover in tonnage if nothing new is found.

Excuse me for my silly question, but why would a change of handler mean you'd have to change parking position? is this something typical for cargo operations, maybe?

Because parking stands 904-909 are closer to the ex flightcare warehouse.
There is also another check-post between stand 907 and 908 for a more direct access to tarmac.

Don't know for the KE, but for SV it was obvious as from day 1 that the -8 would be used on FRA mainly, certainly (!) not Brussels as communicated by the hq, so I don't know where this rumour came from other than between pots and pints of non-SV staff...flightlover wrote:The thought of bringing in the 747-8 is a rumour for more than a year now.

What I do know (for sure) is that hq is planning the M1F retiring actively for this year june, and replace M1F steel with the -8. That's all.
