It was indeed August.
There was some FOD on the runway, they called airport services but the runway was not yet clear before the Easyjet's arrival.
It went around and after a short circuit it landed back on runway 20 in Brussels.
An other reported non-event.

A SWISS RJ100 (HB-IYS) operating flight LX781 from BRU to ZRH had a near-miss with a paraglider in German airspace on approach to ZRH airport on 8 May 2013. The minimum remaining separation was about 50-100 feet vertically and 50-100 meters horizontally.

This afternoon, the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in agreement with the other EU countries, has issued a warning against flying to all regions of Egypt.
http://ymlp.com/zd1CY0
Thomas Cook and Jetairfly cancel all flights to Egypt until 31 August, but all tourists currently in Egypt can pursue their vacation in safety by following the instructions of their tour-operator. Not sure how and when they will come back if flights are cancelled...
However, the visit (by plane!) of Foreign Minister Mr Reynders in Egypt from 21 to 24 August is maintained.

The flights depart empty but return with passengers who were planned to return.
Still no danger in tourist areas

Not all tour-operators have cancelled their trips to Egypt. Club Med left the choice for their customers to go or to cancel. Hence a Brussels Airlines flight left this afternoon to Taba, in the Gulf of Aqaba, with quite a number of passengers, despite the warning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to avoid Egypt.
Egyptair also maintained their flights, and they were far from being empty!

RMF, SSH, HRG are running smooth and that is not too strange.
However I find it strange that CAI and Egyptair are still online. Anyone at CAI who knows more about the current security at CAI airport?
Personal opinion: Not a smart move from ClubMed. Operationally (aviation wise) I can agree since there are enough escape routes, morally I disagree. I also think about pax insurrance issues etc...

FlyGeorgia's single A320 jet (leased from AerCap) is impounded at BRU after a Belgian court ordered it to be grounded for unpaid leasing fees:

Picture: Airwaysfoodie
And there goes one airline and one destination out of Brussels..., unless FlyGeorgia uses its remaining A319 to fly the route and takes the risk to see it impounded as well!

Translated from an article in Het Laatste Nieuws:
On Saturday, a flight from Bodrum to Ostend had to divert to Liège, reason not known. Onboard, several passengers protested against the additional stopover. And once landed at LGG some youth exited the aircraft for a cigarette, on LGG's tarmac. The crew noticed the captain who then decided to refuse them for the remainder of the flight (OST-LGG). The LGG airport police had to intervene and a 22-year old guy then wounded two police officers. He was arrested.

A United Airlines plane with more than 200 passengers on board, flying from Chicago to Brussels, had to turn back due to a "security problem," said news sites The Republic and Chicago Tribune on Saturday. Flight UA972 was scheduled Friday at 18:00 (local time) and was due to arrive in Brussels on Saturday around 9:00. However, the plane landed in Chicago at 22:07, where it was welcomed by the police.
The FBI is responsible for the decision to stop the plane, but no arrest has been made.
The passengers were rerouted on another flight to Brussels.
Neither the FBI nor the airline did give any details on the nature of the security problem suspected.

Strange to refuel at Liège and why apparently didn't the crew say anything to the passengers ?sn26567 wrote:Refuelling.Passenger wrote:On Saturday, a flight from Bodrum to Ostend had to divert to Liège, reason not known

La Dernière Heure indeed mentions a refuelling stop, whilst Het Laatste Nieuws mentions the detour via LGG was because of "an unspecified inflight incident".

More about it (in French) :
http://www.dhnet.be/actu/faits/grabuge- ... c05f0c02b3
Extract :
Brahim a vu rouge. Il a essayé de forcer le passage et a frappé à coups de poing les deux policiers qui tentaient de l’arrêter.
Brahim a été déféré hier matin au parquet de Liège. Il fera l’objet d’une comparution accélérée devant le tribunal correctionnel.

Since this morning, work-to-rule union actions with Belgian customs officials have an impact on both passenger services and freight operations at Brussels Airport.airazurxtror wrote:"Work to rule" wildcat strike at the customs of Brussels Airport today
For passengers, these actions with Belgian customs lead to longer waiting times at arrivals customs inspection.
For freight customers, these actions may impact the processing of arriving and departing freight.
Something else at BRU:
At the moment, access to the airport by road may be hindered because of the cleaning of a large oil stain on the access road

Re: Abnormalities in BRU-ANR-CRL-LGG-OST in 2013
The newspapers and tv report that unions protest against their new shift system that will be introduced at all airports and all harbours. Up till now, they get paid extra for each night shift and weekend shift. But when the new shift system is in place, they will all get the same (higher) salary, but it will include what they now get extra for night shifts and weekend duty.
So once again, the Belgian unions use innocent passengers and innocent cargo clients to put pressure on their employer - the FOD Financiën / SPF Finances (Federal Department of Finance). Wy don't they block off the garage exit from their own department? Why don't they organize a sit-in in their minister's office? Why don't they refuse to do road controls untill they get what they want?
Using passengers in a "social dispute is very anti social. And shame on the strikers who enjoy to cause damage to private transporters and cargo companies at Brucargo.
