Possible merger between SAS and Finnair?

Post by sn26567 »

First, a Danish newspaper leaked a report saying there would be a lot of potential benefits in such a merger. Than the Finnair CEO replied by saying there are pros and cons.

I see already two main disadvantages:

1) Finnair is profitable, SAS loses a lot of money.
2) The two airlines are part of different alliances.

Anyway, it does not seem it's going to happen in the next few days or even months.

con. 1 is the decisive one.. different alliances is not that important. I don't think that they should merge, will
be a major mistake by FINNAIR.

I think it's not a bad idea ...
It's also not new ... was always "in the air" somehow ..
SK nor AY can stay as they are ... because both are under serious challenges ..
They would need to be privatised anyways.
However the 2 brands should stay imo.
We shall see ...

I think this would be a verry bad idea: within SAS there are already lots of discussions going on between the governements of the countries involved. This would add a country more, so four countries for one airline without a clear 'leader'. (and of course even more unions)

I agree. They already have difficulties running three hubs in three different countries. Another country and another hub is not going to help in my opinion.
