Actually, it's fifteen million, not fifteen thousend.

Don't worry...

Allow me to quote myself again:
One MP said this yesterday: "...Ik wil erop wijzen dat het Europees Parlement op 18 april 2013 een nieuwe verordening heeft goedgekeurd waardoor men in de grote luchthavens met meer dan 15.000 passagiers per jaar van twee naar drie bagageafhandelaars moet gaan..." Translated : "a new EU Rule states that airports with more then 15.000 passengers per year must have at least three luggage handlers instead of two". Fifteen thousand. So Antwerp, Ostend, Liège, Charleroi : get ready !
The reason why I've mentionned the quote "15.000 passengers per year" and I've repeated it as "fifteen thousand" was to make clear that some members of parliament have no idea what they're talking about. This MP indeed thinks that the new EU Rule is for airports with more then 15.000 pax/year. She (indeed: it's a mrs) doesn't know that it's for airports with more then 15.000.000 pax/year.

Therefore, my remark "Antwerp, Ostend, Liège, Charleroi: get ready" was just some sarcasm.

With 60 pax you only need 1 bag per pax filled to the allowed 20Kg to have that weight. And then you don't count bulk cargo in that number.
on a lot of flights you don't get 60 pax so let alone 60 pax with 20kg bags
And where did the cargo go?

1200kg is a good average, certainly in the morning (ex-African bags, ex-Usa bags)... Offcourse you will have flights with payloads less then 500kg (BSL, BRS, ...) but you will also have flights with payloads over 3000KG (CMN, DME, AYT, ...).

It's true that mail is not cargo but... it is payload for sure! When you make that tour in the morning make sure you pass by the DME flight where the mail alone probalby weighs 1500kg, or the FCO where the fish is packed per 25kg and totals +2000kg. Or the Ukrainian with it endles row of cargo carts waiting to be loaded :) The Tunisair to TUN has a patent on heavy cargo peices. I could go on and on...

Unless of all of that changed since I left flightcare 1,5 years ago...

so... Flightlover I'd make the bet!

Who says the airlines were going to use people which don't have the knowledge to operate the equipment. I'm sure airlines have people who had the necessary training. Moreover, maybe Swissport management ahve ahd such a training.

Why the hell does it matter?? It's their bloody job!! It doesn't matter if there is 5kg or 5000kg of cargo!
Should I go on strike cause my flights have over 80% loadfactor and I want it to be maximum 55%?
What the hell??

At the rear of the cabin and around the aircraft it does Mather. And yes it is their job, but it doesn't mean you can act so 'hautain'. Without does guys around and at the back of the plane flying would get a hole less safe and pleasant.
You as a cabin crew member should know that. You expect respect to. Or do you have such personal issues you don't think you deserve respect.
And as a final note: Will you handle a full plane on your own when the rules state you have to be with minimum 3? If so you are the bosses dream employee. And to me you are ready for the mental institution.

To me the question is different:
cnc wrote:AirOpinion you talk about weight, i talk about flight percentage...
Because percentage is not really an issue regarding this strike... Weight is.

I agree that there is a choice... But that doesn't mean that I must find it humain ;) I'm a have a very liberal view on things... However I'm pretty good informed about this situation and thus I can understand the reason for this strike.

With the handlers we are at a point where management says (and I'm translating to your business area)... Our cost need to be reduced, from now on only 3 cabin crews iso 4 on the A320... Where you will say: that is not possible. Safety wise you need 4, service wise you will not be able to provide the full b.service on a full flight. If however this decision has been taken and you notice that year after year clients are getting more and more unhappy, service dropped to a very low level and safety is below standards. Since you're not a union man you go to your boss and ask why we offer such low quality, safety... And then he says: the quality is good, we are even thinking to reduce the cabin crew to 2... Have a great working day! Then yes, if you are lucky, you can switch jobs... But that doesn't solve the safety and quality problem.

Yes, the typical answer around here, somebody said something I don't like, so let's go and whine to the mods to close ...

This has nothing to do with "hautain" smu, but everything with people NOT respecting other people's rights. If it would be a written rule somewhere that 4 people are mandatory to unload the aircraft, then nothing can be said by your direction. Obviously, such rule does not excist or did they intentionally break a law then? Respect I have for everybody, but not for holding people and their bags hostage and definatly not for people not respecting a contract between the union and management. You my friend, are living on another planet. Now call me childish if you like, just because you don't like my opinopn. Where Is the respect in that then?

flightlover and AirOpinion, perhaps a final note to think about...
a few years ago when we had all those extra KE flights none of those overworked bagage loaders wanted to go to the cargo devision to help out for 1 to 3 weeks because they'd have to work harder
you'd think they would be happy to be parted from that heavy loading for a few days no?

So just because there is no written law that there have to be at least x workers at the airplane to load it, you think it is ok to have just 2 or 1 even. Those loaders are humans also. It's not as if every job has a minimum of workers needed stipulated in laws.

And about the weight; I suggest to read this page: http://www.ergonomiesite.be/arbeid/gewicht_tillen.htm(dutch only)

So, there is no law about how many workers need to load an aircraft and there is no law about a maximum amount of weight that a worker can move. Yet some of you are saying it's unsafe to do it with 2 persons? Based on what? Who decides if it's safe or not?

I see constantly at CRL 2 people load and unload the aircraft .... in 25 min. What's the problem?

the problem is those people don't know any better so they do what they are paid for, a lot of flightcare/swissport loaders have known very luxurious/lazy worktimes and they do not want things to change.
