C17 into Brussels

Post by B737229 »

The last few months I have seen several times a C17 parked at the Military apron at Melsbroek. They always seem to make a nightstop at Melsbroek, and all where US Airforce.
Acutally the lst one I saw whas y'day evening (7/2/04).

Does anybody know what these aircraft are doing at Melsbroek? Is is something to do with the deployment of Belgian troops in Congo?

Any info welcome

Aren't Antonov's 124 used for that mission? Or have i missed the reason why the've frequently visited Melsbroek the last weeks?

I also thought the AN124 where used for these troop transports.

There was another C17 parked at the mil airport on Tue10/2 early morning, but did not take the reg, because i was driving on haachtse steenweg, when I notiiced her!

I just saw a program (Nova) on Dutch Television (NED3) about NATO boss J. De Hoop Scheffer making a quick visit to Afghanistan. Their was a camerateam following him and they mentionned the departure in Brussels last Sunday.

That was probably the same plane which you saw in the weekend bringing the NATO boss back home.

A C17 for the Nato boss :!:
Are you sure, this seems like a very big plane for just him and his followers, and it does not have a very comfortable cabin, if you see what I mean .

ciao,
TriStar

I'm sure Tristar :!:
You're right that it was not very comfortable.
It looked like  http://www.airliners.net/open.file/101433/M/ , but with seats in it. When the crew was filming onboard, they even showed a soldier who was cooking. It looked like meat balls in tomato sauce. He even used a big mess-tin to cook.

If I would have been the Nato boss I would have asked to get the jumpseat ;) It's always much more comfortable, and in addition to that you get a better view :P

Hi guys,

It may look like the C-17 is a bit uncomfortable for Mr De Hoop Scheffer but it isn't ;)

They can add a few rows of very luxe seats (leather). They won't let the NATO be sitting on one of those small cracky parachuterseat

They added those leather seats also when the USAFECOM General went back to the USA after his period stationed in Europe (also C-17 dep EBBR)

Greeetz,

Evert
