Brussels Airlines currently operates the route 6 weekly and Lithuania wants SN to reshedule their flights to evening flights and/or go double daily. SN doesn't want to do that unless they get a warrently of 1 million euro in the case they are not profitable or don't get a loadfactor of at least 85%.
At least, that's what 'government sources' say.
It seems that this was already known 2 months ago?

The route was already mentioned indeed, but as far as I know it wasn't mentioned how many times per week they'll fly as you can now read in the article.

Are there any news about flights from Brussels to recently opened Kutahya Zafer Airport (KZR) yet? I heard that THY and Pegasus do intend to start flights in spring 2013?

I suppose they will launch it close to Xmas, just like they did last year?
Is it going to be an evening NY, or Boston? The 2 will be very popular in the business community, so why not launch the 2 together? With 100m euro from Lufthansa, surely they must be able to open more than just 1 transatlantic route next year?

IAD also appeared on their wish list, and even high on the list... ;)

And I believe LH decides how fast SN can expand with that 100 million...I don't believe it's completely up to SN to decide. And as it was previously said they would expand with one aircraft each year (this was said while the loan of 100 million was already known), so I wouldn't expect them to add two new aircraft in 2013 unless things go better than expected.

Would IAD need the use of a 332?

My last long-haul flight with Sabena was on a 332 to/from IAD. And at that time (2001), there was also a daily United 767. Hence there seems to be a market.

I heard there is a lot of business demand for flights of SN (or at least extra capacity, probably UA would work to :P ) to/from IAD.
It's a high yield market (look at the amount of premium seats United currently has on this route). So I believe the A333 would be a better choice. It has only marginally more seats in economy in the new configuration, but the gap in business class is bigger, and I believe that's more important for IAD. So I believe an A333 could work perfectly. On the other hand, I don't know what UA's intentions are when SN really starts the route and if SN plans daily or more like 5-6 weekly (daily is not required as long as UA continues operations on the route).

Btw, back in the days of Sabena I believe the route wasn't succesfull because of the competition of United (at least, that's what I heard). But of course today's situation is totally different with UA and SN being partners and the IAD-BRU market grown significantly.

Why start your own flight to IAD when the airport is perfectly covered by an alliance partner, a JV-partner?

Better try to have UA starting a second daily flight or, given availabilty, send a daily 747...

Being discussed in another topic by now...

But again, if business demands for more flights and UA is unable to fulfill this demand...

Jet Airways confirmed that the A333's have been bought (leased) for the BRU-hub. As from summer 2013 all 4 daily flights at BRU will be operated with the A333's.
Due to restructurig of their intercontinental network, Chennai-Brussels-New York JFK was dropped, but the other routes were planned to get extra capacity from the A333. The A333 offers 73 more seats than the A332's.

As a result some of the A332's will leave the fleet. I believe there are two leased, that even have different engines? These are supposed to leave I believe. The rest will be used for Asian routes.
The 77W's role in Europe will stop with the LHR-operations.

ETIHAD has further adjusted planned Summer 2013 operation, which sees a number of increase on European routes. As always additional changes remain possible.

Abu Dhabi – Brussels Service increases from 8 to 12 weekly

Code: Select all

EY057 AUH0230 – 0740BRU 332 x1
EY055 AUH0910 – 1420BRU 332 x4

EY058 BRU1120 – 2000 AUH 332 x1
EY056 BRU2215 – 0655+1AUH 332 x4
Source: Airline Route

It seems that Etihad wants to prevent Emirates from ever flying to Brussels!

Thank you established02. But since Amsterdam has been upgraded by Emirates to an A380, Brussels can easily be served through Amsterdam and the new Fyra HST trains (if their reliability is improved!). Not sure we'll see EK soon in Brussels.

During a meeting in Doha between Akbar al Baker and minister Didier Reynders, Qatar confirmed they'll go daily to BRU. But a firm date was not given.
Besides Qatar is looking at a bigger African network and Reynders proposed a coorperation with Brussels Airlines, but no firm engagements were made.

Daily to BRU yes, but working with SN...doubt it. I don't see why Qatar would want to work with SN on Africa.

Some S13 changes in SN's European network.

- Catania resumes with 3 weekly A319 flights (previously 1 weekly planned)
- Edinburgh increases from 6 weekly to 12 weekly operated by FlyBe Q400 instead of planned Avro
- Faro resumes with 5 weekly A319 (previously 4 weekly planned)
- Naples resumes with 6 weekly A319 (previously 5 weekly planned)

Others already known before:
- Florence: resumes with 8 weekly Avro
- Palermo resumes with 1-2 weekly A319
- Porto resumes with 6 weekly A319 and weekly A320 (so daily flight)

Source: airlineroute.net

Better than expected in advance bookings for these resuming seasonal routes and/or just to let the A319's fly more instead of being workless on the ground?
