Seat width becoming narrower at many airlines

Post by Air Key West »

sn26567 wrote:Jet Airways operates five B777-300ERs and according to website Bangalore Aviation the carrier will reconfigure its economy cabins from nine to ten-across.

It means Jet’s economy cabins will seat 310 passengers up from 274 passengers which in turn will boost revenue. Routes in and out of India are price sensitive so this move will enable Jet to better compete with its Gulf-based rivals on long stages to Europe.

The downside for the passengers point-of-view is that, besides having one more person per row, the seat width which is currently 18.5 ins, is cut to a tighter 17 ins.
People/travelers are getting taller and bigger. Seat pitch and seat width are getting smaller. How long are travelers going to pick it that they are treated like sardines in a tin can ? At least on long haul flights. (sorry, off topic)
In favor of quality air travel.

Until people are going to realise that the current ticket prices on many competitive routes are too low to cover the costs and as a result accept higher ticket prices? Or until the costs made by the airlines can be reduced dramaticly?

I am tall (1,92 meters) but I never cared about the width of my chair. What matters is the seat pitch. I have no prblem with Jet Air's decision, but hope that the seat pitch will be (remain) correct.

Try doing something in a narrow seat: reading a newspaper, eating a meal, working with a laptop: you might change your mind quickly!
