Ryanair launch a smartphone app

Post by SpottairBRU »

Ryanair is launching an application for iDevices (iPod, iPad, iPhone). It will allow to (among other things):
- Book flights
- Manage flights
- Book car rentals (Hertz)
- get latest news on Ryanair

The application is (surprise!) not free: 3 Euros

News release: http://www.ryanair.com/en/news/ryanair- ... -on-iphone

Honestly, I don't see the advantage (for the customer, of course) of paying for an app, of which most of information can be looked at via the web browser of the device at no cost. I have apps from Lufthansa, Alitalia, AirFrance, EasyJet, and while most of them are more practical than the web browser to display the same kind of info, they are free.

I might however have considered Ryanair's one if it would be able to display electronic boarding passes (like Lufthansa's application, for example). But it doesn't, and 3 Euros is far too much in my opinion if I cannot get more features than the ones proposed.

[sarcastic mode on] Maybe the boarding pass will come with an update, and this will be an in-app purchase to be done for each downloaded BP  [sarcastic mode off]

PS: the android app will be available soon.

It's exactly the business model of apple and this is how they are so strong.
The apps are usell, not only this one, 99% of the apps. A browser is good enough most of the time.
But an app is the best way for apple to control what's going through, and to make money.

If people are insane enough to buy a phone of 600 euro when it should be 200 like its android counterpart, they are insane enough to pay 3 euro for a ryanair app when it should be free online.

When i was reading you caption (Ryanair launch a smartphone app) I thought: oooh boy, this does not come for free. And then reading this:

"The application is (surprise!) not free: 3 Euros "

I was falling of my seat laughing!

Made my day.

Hahaha, you were not alone to laugh! When we think than the usual price for an app on the App Store is 0,79€, these 3€ are sky high! Well, if one of the luchtzakkers buys it, I would be interested to read a short review of this app! And let's hope it is not polluted by ads...

OK, I'm off going to buy ink for my printer so I'll be able to print my boarding pass for my Ryanair flight tomorrow, as their app does not offer electronic boarding passes

That would be to easy and people can't forget it, so less revenue for MOL.

If MOl finds a way to make it difficult, he will! Try to book a ticket without a surcharge!!!

Cheers,

Well, apparently not that simple, as from the boarding pass I just printed, it seems they must keep a bit of the sheet of paper.

I find it interesting (though not surprising) that Ryanair's smartphone app is €3 whereas all other airline apps are free though. Still, at least they are also making an android version unlike some other airlines who think people only buy iPhones.
