If that was right, then they would take into account the wind. The wind uptil now still requires 20 to be used and not 02/07R.

Today Sunday again, works at runway and strong wind conditions force use of single runway at RWY20. This may cause delays at peaktime.

Again, strong south-westerly winds force the use of one single runway. This morning, like many days before, it is Rwy 20. This may cause delayed flights at peak time.

And since you asked, even if winds seems to be less strong at some times, there are gusts at more than 20 knots.

Furthermore, use of Rwy 25L for departures would cause even more delays, since the taxiways don't reach the threshold of the runway, compelling aircraft to taxi on the runway itself.

What I don't understand is why they don't use the 25L for landings (winds are the last days from 210 to 240) and Rwy 20 for departures.
If Rwy 02 is in use, departures will always be performed on 07R.
Maybe someone from ATC can have a logical answer but I dont' see any !

Thank you !

I totally agree with you. And I also would be interested to know the reason why 25L is not in use. For landings of course, 25L beeing almost never used for T/O as explained by SN 2657 before.

To give you an answer:

When 02/07R is in use, the atc just have to wait for departure clearance, when the landing plane has crossed the departure runway. This distance is very short and does not limit anything. If you'd use 20 as a departure runway and 25L as a landing runway, atc still has to wait for the landing plane on 25L to cross 02/20 or to vacate 25L (if vacated before the crossing) before being able to give takeoff clearance to the plane on RWY 20. This takes time and thus is less efficiënt than putting all planes on RWY 20. Hope this helps you out.

Finally a change today end of the afternoon: Due to stormy weather, landings are now on Rwy 20 and takeoff on Rwy 25L.

25L has not been used for a long time. Today strong wind conditions continue to force single runway operations on Rwy20 at Brussels Airport, causing possible delays at peak time.

I've seen it happen a few times this year alone. Wind was 100/8 variable between 050 and 130, so maybe that's why (although that's still not too much of a crosswind for 02 arrivals)...
