the A320NEO series came out best.
If the A320NEO series came out best for THIS part of the replacement, than UA would have bought the A320NEO series now. Either ex-CO or UA managment is in control, they would both go for the best solution.

Btw, what's your source for that audit conclusion? Not that I doubt about you, but I didn't hear it before. Especially because Boeing upgraded the planned performance of the 737MAX very recently (and announced the planned performances earlier this month, see this for some key numbers that were announced by Boeing).

Not necessarily. It's possible UA couldn't get the correct production slots from Airbus and thus went for the MAX. Moreover, the current management at UA is very pro-Boeing.

also a shame UA didn't split their order between boeing and airbus. god damn CO management... fleet planning was pro airbus
Not weird at all. Firstly the 747 is a crap A/C by today's standards. It's a very old design, albeit tarted up a bit, but few will have strong desires for it.

The future of large Aircraft is very much in the big twins but for those that need a VLA then the A380 will be the Toy of Choice.

The A380 also did not register any single order at Farnborough...

Turkish Airlines is said to announce an order for the A380 or B748i (if I remember well they talked about 15 aircraft) very soon. All rumours point at the 748i. But of course we've to wait until an official announcement.

Als part of these 30 747's would be the confirmation of some MoU's. Air China for exemple has 5, but this order is not firmed yet. Tough Boeing said that would happen soon (as Air China may even get their first 748i before Korean Air which already has 5 firm orders). There is also a MoU for 15 announced at the Paris Air show, it's being said that this one is from Hong Kong Airlines/Hainan. Also Transaero still has to firm their MoU for 4 748i's.

So firm orders from airlines currently:
- Lufthansa: 20 (2 delivered)
- Korean Air: 5
- Arik Air: 2

MoU's:
- Air China: 5
- Transaero: 4
- Unidentified: 15

Possible orders this year or in 2013:
- Turkish Airlines: about 15
- Cathay (is reviewing the 748i and A380 once again)
- ???

How do you know fleet planning was pro-Airbus? I know a United (CO) A-320 pilot who told me that United was giving large preference to the new 737 (unless Airbus really droppped their prices) as the 737 is more fuel efficient in United's filght structure. The 737 weighs less than the A-320 and requires lower thrust engines.

The United pilot told me this in January (2012) long before the show. What is your source?
