The European Summit has been maintained on monday, day of the national strike.
What if Brussels Airport is on strike ?
Would it be possible to divert the European head of states aircraft to Beauvechain ? There are difficulties : small parking space for large aircraft, lack of firemen and of some equipmen - but it's nevertheless a possibility that is being looked into :

Seriously, as a young person that will join the job market in a couple of years I'm sick of all these strikes. Don't take people hostage so you could have a day of work. Instead of doing any good, this strike will only damage the image of Belgium even more for potential investors. Stop handicapping this economy for no reason. Must be very nice as a tourist to not be able to reach Brussels that day. I would be furious.

guys, van Quickenborne is not listening or budging, forget it...Here at Bru.Air, our management asks us not to on strike, because they say it's better they'll do the necessary talking and negotiating. How come I'm not hearing anything from them accept one lousy email? Because they know with the new pilot-scheme it's a win/win situation fot the company, it's amazing.
Anyway, I'm using my free day to go to Brussels on monday!

like they care, i'm not working for a belgian company. maybe they can't fire me for that reason but i'm sure everyone who's not at work (in our company) on monday will regret it.

Allow me to make an honnest remark: I always regarded pilots and air traffic controllers as the most intelligent, most conscientious and most responsible people from the whole travel, tourism, aviation and transport branch. And I still do.

To strike “against the government” however is as stupid and illogical as to strike against global warming, against acid rain or against hunger in the world.

By damaging their own company, the pilots also behave irresponsible - specially those from airlines who will probably present red figures for 2011.

Belgian aviation will become less safe as from next Monday: what if Belgian pilots and Belgian air traffic controllers start to show the same negligent attitude during their actual work?

off topic, but I can't resist...

The safety of air traffic...

I think it is quite telling that the first phase of the Performance Plan FABEC has started at the beginning of 2012 and for every key performance area there is a key performance indicator EXCEPT for safety. The ones with KPIs are environment, capacity, cost efficiency and military mission effectiveness.

The KPI for safety will be decided over the course of the first phase.
If you hear this, guess where the cuts will be made.......

Not at all! BruAir wants you to keep low profile because your pension contributions have been deducted from your salary BUT have never been paid to the state. They are an illegal form of state aid. If too much noise is made about this the EU might order BruAir to repay it which would put them in serious trouble.

The main reasons to join are listed here:

http://aclvb-cgslb.blogspot.com/2012/01 ... -30th.html

One example: The government wants us to continue to pay a premium for a separate system which it has just abolished because it still just discovered it still needs the extra money to pay for the pensions of those who are retired now.... HELLOOOO

It's like paying for a mortgage on a house you have already sold!

Your money goes to BruAir, NOT into the pension fund. They want you to continue to pay to save your company! Your enemy is BruAir not the state.

Following a meeting that took place at Brussels Airport on 27 January 2012, Belgocontrol can announce that all air traffic control services should be carried out normally. However, disturbances might still occur if staff members are in the impossibility to reach their workplace due to blockades.

Flightcare/aviapartner are apparently going to be as good as gone from the apron.
On top of that, they predict frost for Sunday night, so Monday morning looks like it is going to be a complete mess for sure, much more than during the recent handling strike given the meteorological conditions expected....

I don't expect too much trouble at Flightcare.... It's not unusual for unions to overestimate support on the workfloor. Previous national strike at the airport was not a succes either.
