Excerpts :
Next year, KLM will offer passengers volunteers to consult with their Facebook profiles to choose a neighbor according to his/her affinities.
Making a long haul flight can lead to interesting encounters but also (and often) unbearable ones. To stop the lottery of boarding the Dutch airline KLM, Air France affiliate, should offer next year the service "Meet & Seat" , which will choose one's neighbor based on their Facebook profile.
This service, still in development, should be available when booking online. In addition to choosing a place in the plane, it will be possible to learn more about the other passengers on the flight to play the game on a voluntary basis. Only information already publicly available on Facebook would be available. This is often gender, physical (via the profile photo), age, educational level, occupation, preferences, musical or film. This will make it possible to avoid the sporty Howler, the metal fan ... But also to organize a meeting based on its activity and its relations.
However, these services leave observers skeptical. The choice of physics may be the main criterion for research among passengers. According to a recent survey, 45% of travelers say they flirt by air. A third of them found their arrival travel companion for a drink. Even 8% said that this meeting led to an ongoing relationship.
If "Meet & Seat" can give a boost to fate, it may also give rise to many abuses. There have been cases of people refusing to sit next to a person of color.

I dislike this... this will result in a lot of uncomfortable situations!

Everybody can choose not to adhere to the scheme. Only "volnteers" will join the programme.RCMike wrote:I dislike this... this will result in a lot of uncomfortable situations!
