Hi all !
I am a PPL(A) whose license has just expired but who is fully current both on qualification (PPL-SEP) and medical (class 2). I haven't been able to find the answer to my question in my regulations book and a senior representative of my FTO wasn't able to answer me (!) either:
Am I right to assume that this license renewal is an automatic, administrative formality which only requires me to go to the DGTA/DGL, pay and get my licence renewed ?
Since I have virtually not flown in the last 12 months, I would hate to have to justify 12 hours, etc... just to renew this.
Thanks for all and any input.
Good landings to all,
OO-PAL

Re: Regulation Question
Hello
If you have not flown during the last 12 months, I think you must make a new in-flight examination ( skill test ) with an examiner ( NOT an instructor !! ).
On the DGTA website, you can find the AEROPLANE LICENSING MANUAL where you should find confirmation.
Here is the link to download it ( it's the french version ) : http://www.mobilit.fgov.be/data/aero/manplanef.pdf

Re: Regulation Question
Thank for your reply, ATCO ACC.
I had looked into this section of the DGTA website but there is no specific reference to the renewal of a licence. In my mind - and according to the regulations book - the 12 prior months applies to the SEP(A) qualification which in my case is still valid 1 year, and the renewal of a 5-yr validity license is automatic, provided the medical and the qualification are in order. At least that what I hope... I don't like the idea of an examiner again.
Thanks again and good landings,

Re: Regulation Question
Thanks for the many answers on the forum and in private. I was re-assured to notice that I was not the only one for whom this was nebulous (!).
For the record, I went to DGTA today and renewed my PPL(A) 5-yr licence by simply paying a EUR 148,- fee despite it being expired since 10/8/11. This is a simple administrative act provided the rating and the medical are valid, which was my case. The 12-flying hour or re-examination rules, etc... apply only to the revalidation/renewal of ratings.
Back in the air, now !
