For international recognition, they should have christened it 'Vienna'. Who (except in German-speaking countries) knows what 'Wien' means?

When will Lufthansa christen an A380 with the name 'Brussels'?

Whenever they start a route to Brussels, I think. Which is not likely :-)

They don't only name their A380's to cities they fly to. They have (next to A380 destinations) Frankfurt (logicall, their biggest hub and the home base for the A380's), but also MUC, ZRH and VIE... Somehow I get the idea they want to name some of their A380's to the LH Group hubs. So with 'only' 8 A380's already delivered, I think there is a high chance we'll see a "Brussels" A380 someday.

Except that having a Brussels A380 and never see it in BRU has no logic.
What kind of destination would fill an A380 from BRU ?

They do name the A380s after the big StarAlliance hubs (that is the official wording). And yes, they do the name in the local language. I think I remember on the "Tokio" and the "Bejing" the names are written in the local languages as well. As the local language in Vienna happens to be German (well, a sort of German 8-) ) the name is in German.
Before they can name a A380 after Brussels it probably has to be decided which language would be the correct local language at Brussels Airport in Zaventem, how long will this take? Seriously: I can imagine after the full takeover of SN one of the next A380s LH might receive than will get the name Brussels.

I never realized Vienna was so small :|
Anyway, the only correct name for an A380 carrying the BRU name, would be "Brussel".

Well, without wanting to go in the whole linguistic and political disucssion: What could be the other pov? The airport is located in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium. If the LH strategy is to call it in the local language, then it should be the Dutch version.

Though we'll probably end up with Brussels... to avoid people painting over the name ;)

I don't see any other point of view really, simple because the entire airport is located in Flanders.
I hadn't even thought about Zaventem yet... Too bad we all know that won't be happening :-)

Would it be too much asking that you refrain this arrogance?

Where does this superiority feeling come from that allows you to place the name of Zaventem forward?
Because the airport terminal is located on that municipality?

Let's stick to facts : the aircraft lands on the holy grounds of Steenokkerzeel !

The airport is spread over THREE (3) municipalities : Steenokkerzeel, Machelen and Zaventem.
Please realize that your attitude of putting only Zaventem forward as if it were the center of the world is perceived painfully by others.

To end on a positive and constructive note, may I suggest that we all work together in regrouping these three municipalities into one?
We may even call it "Greater Zovetoem" if that can please you but the most important we could so achieve is to reach the level of a CITY.
As you know, LH name their aircraft after CITIES, not municipalities...
;)

Cheers.

you guy have all the same logic.
If extremism is the only way to go in your PoV, fine.
I'd rather see a tri or quadri language option that represent more the real although complex situation of Belgium.

On the A380 must be enough space to put the name in all three belgian languages ;)

I doubt whether grouping them into one would be such a great idea.
I couldn't care less about whether there would be Zaventem, Steenokkerzeel or Machelen on the side... Even Brussel would do.

To be honest, I'd love, or better said, laugh, if it was to become this:

Brussel
Bruxelles
Brussels
Brüssel

Why calling a geological reference is extremist is pretty much beyond me, but that might just be me.
