Belgocontrol ATIS phone service

Post by OO-PAL »

Hi all,

Just a simple PPL here but since today, I cannot reach the Belgocontrol ATIS 02- number... That was so convenient. Is this just a temporary problem or have they canned it ?

Safe landings to all,

Sorry, not really an answer, but why do you still need the phone number when all the ATIS's are online on their web page? Wish to consult them just prior to take-off, perhaps?

This phone number is very useful when we are planespotting (for the weather observation but mainly for runway use !). :) ;)

For local use, there is a broadcast... 132,475 at EBBR ...
Mind you the ATIS does NOT include a weather forcast, only an observation.

Oh yes, that's what I meant. Sorry for the mistake.
Voilà, it's corrected in my post. ;)

Hi Jan,

I got as far as http://www.belgocontrol.be/belgoweb/pub ... AtisVolmet but can't see exactly where the infomation is. Do you have to be approved by Belgocontrol?

Cheers,
Ems

Thx all for your posts - still no news about the service, though... :(

I find this extremely useful in addition to the online METAR/TAF service. I often call it from the car on my way to EBCI to check about conditions development. So I would think it is a loss not to have it anymore.

I think so. You can go a long way down the menu, but just before accessing the actual ATIS info I was challenged for my credentials.

The way to go is (from the homepage) AIS-meteo briefing ("accurate data .... for a safe flight")
This opens a new browser window, select
"PIB - preflight briefing", then the rightmost tab "ATIS/VOLMET"

Getting a logon and associated password is a simple procedure, though. I've had mine for ages, so I don't remember the details and they may well have changed since anyway, but I do remember I just supplied some information and got a useful return soon enough. The one time I forgot the password it was mailed without any hassle, too.

Good luck!

Make sure to have AND use the appropriate equipment or it might end up rather expensive...
