Add the cost of setting up an entire office at AMS, and the closure cost of the Brussels office :o
Indian people are known to be good in IT. So I think that they will fill in their Excel sheet very well before making a decision.
Slots at AMS will not be an issue if AF/KL really want to move the hub from AMS to BRU. 9W doesn't need to set up an organization at AMS as it can use KLs existing organization (much cheaper than using your own people). Closing down their BRU office won't be too expensive either. The only thing which may cost money is their lost investment in BRU and any penalties 9W has to pay if they cancel the codeshare contracts. However, we've seen before that they can also let these agreements expire until they're up to renewal. How much passengers do you think will be offered a codeshare on UA when Jet can earn more money on joint venture flight?

Moreover, these are still rumors, and I doubt anything will change before Winter 2011/2012 (if the deal goes ahead).

9W into S.T would at the (very very) earliest summer 2012.

Schiphol is also lobbying hard to get 9W's hub. We'll see.

And there we have it. Jet Airways is planning to start non-stop flights from New Delhi to New York in W11-12 and they are currently negotiating with Delta for the connections out of NYC.
If they will really start this route, it's probably the start of the dismantle of the BRU hub. But I wonder wich aircraft they will use, they can use the 77W's wich return from TK later this year, but only with a serious weight restriction I think. Otherwise they have to lease other aircraft.

Serious weight restriction? Emirates is doing DXB-LAX with 77W which is almost 1000nm longer.

DEL-NYC is little less than 6400nm and take a look at http://www.boeing.com/commercial/startu ... ayload.pdf
I don't think we are taking about a serious weight restriction at all here. Ok, there is some 'penalty', but nothing serious imo. It seems they can still carry ±20 tonnes of additional (revenue) cargo on that mission.

I thought AI was flying DEL-JFK with the 772LR because they couldn't make it with a 77W and that EK is operating the DXB-LAX route with payload restictions. But apperently I've confused it with something else...sorry

So ok, they will (probably) use the 77W (4 77W's will return from TK later this year) for that route...

Indeed this is pretty good for Brussels
AI reacted already positively on this deadline:

Although I don't regret if AI is not able to fulfill its obligations and conditions to become a member of *A...

More trouble for AI, will they ever join Star?

I sincerely hope they do not make the deadline, 9w and star are born for each other.

Luchtvaartnieuws.nl and Indian media are reporting that Jet Airways is intending to start this winter non-stop flights between Amsterdam and Delhi. Any consequences for their Brussels-operations and/ or possible Star Alliance membership?

Their quote comes from the following article:

http://avindia.blogspot.com/2011/06/jet ... -this.html

To be honest, how can you make an article about a possible Amsterdam - Delhi service out of this article... Will be interesting to see the slot request for Winter 2011-2012 (to be made public in a few weeks time).

There is no problem for the operations at BRU. The "possible" flight to AMS is not a whole new one out of India to BRU. BRU has already a daily Delhi flight. An other European destination would be Rome.

Further more, the BRU base is the only European base who makes profit. The aim of Jet Airways is to consolidate these flights to Europe and North-America.

Interview with 9W Chairman Goyal during the IATA conference earlier this week.

Highlights:

-Brussels still continues to be our hub.
-9W wants to focus on the Europe to South Asia/South-East Asia market, i.e. taking on the competition of the Gulf carriers.
-Therefore 9W wants to fly to places like AMS, CDG, FCO, Germany etc, as "that's where the Gulf carriers are carrying the traffic from" and will order more aircraft (like A330) to do so.
-9W is still in talks with alliances like Skyteam & Star Alliance, but is yet to decide on which one to join.
