Hi Everybody!
Tonight, there is a "super full Moon", i.e. that the distance between Earth and the Moon is the shortest (ca. 356 530km, versus 406 705km for the longest distance). This happens quite rarely (last time was in 1992 according to some media), and as the sky was clear, I couldn't resist to go out with my camera (click on the picture to have it in full size. You might have to click on it twice).
I admit, I am very satisfied with the results

Indeed, the moon is 14% larger and 30% brighter than at its minimum.
I also saw it yesterday night and I was baffled by its exceptional brightness. Superb view!

Re: Moon Spotting - 19/03/2011
I was disappointed with the moon, unless I saw it too late (by that I mean after it had risen higher in the sky). I noticed its brightness, but the size disappointed me. I have seen bigger ones than that but they were all lower down.
I saw a superb one back in 1992 when I was taking my dog for his evening walk, and that was by chance. I had no idea that there was to be a big moon that night but when I saw how low it seemed, and how much bigger (truly massive) I was quite impressed. I have never seen one as big before or since, even though I have seen some moons which have been said to be bigger than normal.

Apparently, the Moon was looking "the biggest" around 19:10. I took the picture around 21:15, and noticed that it was bigger than usual, but not a lot (usually I don't really pay attention to its size). However, it was clearly brighter.

It was a beautiful moon, and still is tonight - and it is a beautiful photograph, too, well done! Bravo!
