BRU 24/02/2011 - Putin in Brussels
Vladimir Putin comes to Brussels with a dozen of Russian ministers to visit the European Commission. Probably the opportunity to see some interesting birds.

Since I'm relatively new to EBBR I would want to ask if there is any info on the flights? (probab IL96+IL62+IL76) and is there any place where you can see the motorcade up close?
Thanks!

I think Skystef meant the following (for which I'm highly greatful!)
landings TODAY
15.25 IL62
18.30 IL62
19.20 IL96
19.35 Tu-154
take off TOMORROW
18.15 IL62
13.15 IL62
17.15 IL96
17.30 Tu-154
I need not say that it is highly rare now to see a Tu-154 since they got grounded for civil use in Russia after some incidents.
Please take some pictures if you can. Illness prevents me from going

I'll try to have them at take-off tomorrow (if I don't get caught in traffic): if I manage it, I'll share some pics! Have a fast recoveryRossiya wrote:Please take some pictures if you can. Illness prevents me from going
By the way, I guess they'll land on 25R (too dark for good pics but will still be there)? Can someone confirm this (sorry for the apparently stupid question, but you all know I'm not a runway expert at BRU )?

Re: BRU 24/02/2011 - Putin in Brussels
Could someone tell me what the lighting conditions are around 17-18, these days? I'd like to try to capture a few of these rare birds taking off tomorrow, but I wouldn't have a clue how light it will be, since I'm usually still at work around that time.
I can always use my 50mm f/1.8 lens in the worst case, although I'd prefer at least 200mm for comfort.

Hi MIVB Reiziger!
I was around BRU for the landing of the second IL-62, just before 18:30.
Lighting conditions were at the limit, so I decided to quickly switch from my DSLR to the video function of my Point & Shoot. I posted it on Youtube so you can have an idea of the lighting at that time.
Sorry for the angle of view that is not optimal: I was moving to the intended spotting location when the IL62 suddenly appeared, leaving me just the time to grab the P&S and press the "REC" button!
@Mods: I know the video is from 23/02, but it is merely used to illustrate the lighting conditions we can expect for the take-off on 24/02! So, my opinion is that taking photos between 17 and 18:00 should be feasible!

No worry! Nice to hear again the typical sound of the Il-62 in BRU.SpottairBRU wrote:@Mods: I know the video is from 23/02, but it is merely used to illustrate the lighting conditions we can expect for the take-off on 24/02! Thanks very much for that, however, looking at the weather today, I think I can forget it all together...SpottairBRU wrote:Hi MIVB Reiziger!

that's sweet SpottairBRU . Thank you my man!
The sound is priceless!
Talking of sound. This morning as I prepared for lecture, around 8.30 I think, I heard something flying over Leuven sounding suspiciously Russian. Couldn't see of course because of the grey sky.

Has anybody an idea when the IL76 would leave? Would it be around the same time frame as the others?Skystef wrote:The IL76 will leave presumable as well on 24/02.
Despite the fog, I'm still tempted to go see them take off... or at least hear them

Thanks Skystef!
I am ion BRU (cargo) now and it is quite foggy. But it is still possible to distinguish the planes taking off... For the moment at least!
