From the taxiway to the runway 07 this morning at CRL, I have seen a smaller aircraft just before the ex-DHL 727: it looked like a De Havilland Vampire (twin fin) but I had not much time to examine it, and it was under a cover.
Somebody knows something about it ?

Re: Vampire at CRL ?
Ex Swiss military. After restoration it was supposed to fly again, but during preparation for that flight I believe hydraulics where put under too much pressure and some pipes exploded. As far as I know, no more effort has been put in to restoring the bird. At least that's what I was told, so I don't know how accurate that data actually is...
Re: Vampire at CRL ?
This aircraft was inside a hangar for many years... It is indeed an ex Swiss AF. I think it was supposed to be registered OO-KER or/and OO-KGS

now due to the expansion of CRL the hangar had to be removed and the airframe was given to the WAN.
I have been trying to recover it (as I know the owner) but I was 1 year too late...

Re: Vampire at CRL ?
I can remember when the aircraft was delivered to CRL. I was doing my on-the-job training there as a tower controller at that time, so it dates back to summer/fall 1991. It made a couple of low passes before landing, and never flew anymore as far as I know.
Someone knows the story behind (owners change etc...) ?

Re: Vampire at CRL ?
There was a bunch of guy's in the ninetie's who were looking for A/C engineers to work on the vampire...One of them was a famous guy, now aviation consultant, with a big moustache...and originating from CRL...
