Russian Jet Production reduced to Regional Jets

The following link from Avia Star which produces the TU-204 admits there is no "Budget" for further production of TU-204's this year apart from RA-64048 (for North Korea) and RA-64051 & RA-64052 (for Aviastar) all of which are basically completed. Some older shells including RA-64010 are also being finished. http://www.aviastar-sp.ru/aviastar_ru/index.htm

But it seems there are no firm orders for them to proceed with any new production. Of the 5 freighters ordered by Air China only one was ever delivered and it is apparently sitting idle in Tianjin. And for all the talk about Iran ordering a batch of TU-204's it seems this is not proceeding either.

While talk persists about producing AN-124's and IL-76's (or IL-476's) at Avia Star this is not happening at least for the moment. There are no more IL-96's being produced at Voronezh and no new TU-214's have appeared from the Kazan plant for a long time either. It must be very doubtful that Transaero will now take the remaining machines from the 10 they ordered (think they have received 3 so far).



So unless I am mistaken the Russian Aviation Industry has been reduced from a Global Giant to a producer of 2 Regional Jets, the Superjet and the AN-148. Pretty sad hey? Of course plans remain to develop the MS-21 but who knows if that will ever eventuate.

Aeroflot, which was criticised by Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin earlier this year for its reluctance to acquire domestically built aircraft, has disclosed that it is in talks with Ilyushin Finance over taking a pair of Il-96-400Ts over 2012-13.

Aeroflot board member Leonid Dushatin says the -400T is technically suitable, adding: "There are incentives in terms of lease rates and no clearance costs, as would be the case if [Aeroflot] decided to import Western freighters."
